Trial Attorney - DefensePosition OverviewSeeking an experienced Trial Attorney - Defense to lead complex litigation and jury trials from pretrial through verdict. The ideal candidate will serve as first chair in the courtroom, develop trial strategy, manage case teams, and deliver persuasive advocacy on behalf of clients. This role requires a proven record of trial success, strong litigation skills, and the ability to manage heavy caseloads while maintaining client-focused communication.Key ResponsibilitiesServe as first chair and lead counsel in jury and bench trials, taking primary responsibility for courtroom strategy and advocacy.Develop case theory and trial strategy, including witness preparation, exhibit planning, and demonstrative evidence design.Manage all phases of litigation: pleadings, discovery, motions practice, depositions, and pretrial hearings.Conduct voir dire, direct and cross-examinations, and closing arguments with persuasive oral advocacy.Prepare and respond to complex legal briefs, motions, and pleadings with clear, effective legal writing.Supervise and mentor associates, paralegals, and support staff; coordinate with investigators and expert witnesses.Negotiate settlements and plea agreements when appropriate while preserving client interests and trial readiness.Maintain regular communication with clients, keeping them informed of case status, strategy, and potential outcomes.Ensure compliance with ethical rules and court procedures, managing deadlines and case budgets efficiently.QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active admission to the state bar in which the attorney will practice.Minimum 5-7 years of litigation experience with substantial courtroom and trial exposure; significant first-chair trial experience preferred.Proven track record of handling jury trials and securing favorable verdicts or outcomes for defense clients.Demonstrated skills in litigation, trial advocacy, voir dire, witness examination, and motion practice.Strong legal research, brief-writing, and oral advocacy abilities, with attention to detail and case management skills.Experience defending complex civil or criminal matters and coordinating expert witnesses and investigators.Ability to manage multiple cases, supervise junior staff, and work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines.Excellent client communication skills, high ethical standards, and commitment to zealous defense representation.Willingness to travel to courts as required and to work extended hours during trial preparation and courtroom proceedings.Salary$160k-$200k/yr DOEBenefits:Medical InsuranceVoluntary Vision and Dental InsuranceVoluntary Life InsuranceShort and Long Term Disability401(k)BenefitsContribute to health insurance premiums Parental & Maternal LeaveVoluntary Vision & Dental InsuranceVoluntary Life InsuranceShort and Long Term DisabilityMatch 401(k)10 holidays firmwide a year plus additional 10 PTO days first yearAdditional 15 PTO days for 2nd year, further bumps at 5 and 15 year marks.
