Position Summary

The Criminal Law Paralegal provides comprehensive legal and administrative support to attorneys and General District Court Clerk’s office handling criminal defense and/or prosecution matters. This role involves case management, legal research, document preparation, client communication, trial preparation, and coordination with courts, law enforcement agencies, and other legal professionals. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage sensitive and confidential information in a fast-paced legal environment.

** Key Responsibilities **

• Assist attorneys with all phases of criminal case preparation, including arraignments, hearings, motions, plea agreements, and trials.
• Draft legal documents such as motions, subpoenas, discovery requests, affidavits, and correspondence.
• Conduct legal research related to criminal statutes, case law, court procedures, and evidentiary rules.
• Organize and maintain case files, evidence logs, exhibits, and legal records.
• Review police reports, witness statements, body camera footage, and discovery materials.
• Communicate with clients regarding case updates, document collection, and appointment scheduling.
• Coordinate court dates, deadlines, attorney calendars, and filing requirements.
• File legal documents electronically and in person with local, state, and federal courts.
• Assist with trial preparation by preparing exhibits, witness lists, trial binders, and courtroom materials.
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
• Liaise with prosecutors, court personnel, law enforcement agencies, and expert witnesses as needed.

** Required Qualifications **

• Associate degree or Paralegal Certificate from an accredited program preferred.
• 3-5 years’ experience in criminal law, legal support, or litigation.
• Knowledge of criminal court procedures, legal terminology, and filing practices.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management software.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information professionally.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Experience with electronic court filing systems.
• Familiarity with state and federal criminal procedures .
• Trial preparation and courtroom support experience.
• Fast-paced setting requiring multitasking and adaptability.
