Stony Brook University: Health Sciences: Renaissance School of Medicine: Neurology Location Open Date Feb 17, 2026 Deadline Aug 23, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time Description We are seeking a skilled and compassionate generalist clinical psychologist for our expanding Neurology services across Suffolk County who will welcome the challenge and satisfaction of providing behavioral health care to a diverse pediatric and adult populations with neurological disorders. The role of the clinical psychologist will be integrated into collaboration with a motivated group of clinicians, researchers and educators. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with neurologists and psychiatrists who will provide medical management alongside therapy, as well as allied health professionals to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care for pediatric and adult patients living with chronic neurological conditions. The therapy services provided will be tailored to individuals with neurological disorders in the areas of epilepsy, cerebrovascular, neuromuscular, movement, memory, and behavioral-developmental disorders. The psychologists will be expected to provide one-time consultations, individual or group therapies ranging from short-term goal oriented/solution-focused treatments, to evidence-based practices for more chronic mental health presentations/concerns. Developing integrated care plans, offering counseling, psychoeducation for patients and families adjusting to new diagnoses or disease progression, as well as providing behavioral management strategies for children and adults with chronic neurological disorders will be central to the role of the psychologist. Majority of patient appointments and therapy sessions will be scheduled via telehealth, in-person appointments and therapy sessions can be accommodated as needed. The psychologist may be asked to teach, supervise, or mentor medical students, post doc fellows, residents in Neurology, Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuropsychology. There are also opportunities for clinical research alongside neuroscientists with appointments at Stony Brook Medicine and Stony Brook University. Qualifications Required Qualifications: PsyD or PhD (or foreign equivalent) in Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program or PCSAS-accredited program. Experience in evidence-based treatment modalities. New York State Clinical Psychologist license or eligibility. Must have passed EPPP for licensure eligibility and will complete all post-doctoral clinical hours prior to start date. Preferred Qualifications: Clinical experience and/or training in treating complex chronic illness across the lifespan including intellectual/developmental disabilities, geriatric mood disorders, Tourette’s syndrome, Huntington’s disease, somatoform disorders and deep brain stimulation surgery. Clinical experience with time-limited goal-oriented therapies, including cognitive behavioral therapy and short-term psychodynamic/relational and attachment-based therapies; experience with cognitive behavioral intervention for tics (CBIT). Mental Health interventions in the setting of interdisciplinary care. A track record of education and research. Special Notes Tenure/Non-Tenure Track position.
