Insurance Specialist

Job Description:

Surety Management

• Service the field’s requests for all surety bonds including bid bonds, performance/payment bonds, Workers Compensation self-insurance bonds, license bonds, permit bonds, etc.
• Review contracts to ensure the field’s request via bond application is accurate. Determine the appropriate bond form to be used.
• Secure authorization, signatures, seals and expedite to the customer and/or Region. Communicate with surety broker for issuance and forward full contract when requested by surety for review.
• Ensure all bond requests exceeding $250k have proper line of business approval. For bonds exceeding $6m, send correspondence to CAO.
• Maintain RMIS for tracking of all bond requests
• Assist the broker with bond renewals, contact the Region if the bond requires annual renewal and works with the surety to execute.
• Prepare monthly surety invoicing and obtain location specific billing for premiums exceeding $20,000.

Insurance Compliance

• Respond to Region’s request via review of contract’s insurance requirements. Produce Casualty certificates of insurance and provide endorsements required by contract. Request ancillary lines certificates of insurance through insurance broker and review certificates for accuracy.
• Utilize broker’s certificate platforms and internal RMIS for casualty and other lines. Maintain databases for accuracy, scrubs/eliminates duplicate entries and deletes expired customers/recipients.
• Interface with the Regions/broker/carrier to issue contract required Railroad Protective (RRP) & Owners and Contractors Protective (OCP) policies. Assist Regions in completing requests for RRPs and OCPs.
• Interface with the Region on special request contract related endorsements, working with our broker/carrier to fulfill.
• Prepare monthly invoicing for all Protective policies

Other - When applicable:

• Maintain TPA claim management oversight – Review initial investigation, compensability determinations, reserving practices, medical and disability management, and litigation for specific regions. Provide regional management and sponsorship with return-to-work, reserving, and material change updates.
• Participate and contribute to weekly claim meetings
• Prepare the Weekly Claim Report
• Assist Risk Analytics team

Qualifications/Skills:

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Risk Management or Business-related field
• Strong analytical and communication skills
• Excellent communication/diplomacy skills
• Ability to quickly react to solve practical problems
• Accurate and logical in all responses to customers and field inquiries
• Proficient in Windows and MS Office products – including Outlook/Excel/PowerPoint
• Good math skills
• Capacity to work independently
• Multi-tasker, ability to effectively and efficiently work on more than one project at a time in a fast-paced environment. Possess the sense of urgency to meet short notice deadlines/due dates while diplomatically handling all last-minute requests from the field.
