COMPENSATION: $110,000-$120,000

Position Summary The Director of Development is a senior leadership role responsible for building the strategy, relationships, systems, and team necessary to significantly grow philanthropic support for BGCT. Working closely with the President & CEO, the Director will bring an already successful development operation to new levels of professionalism and results by developing and implementing an explicit, multi-year strategic resource development plan encompassing annual giving, major gifts, corporate and foundation relationships, donor stewardship, and fundraising events. The Director will personally manage a portfolio of key donors and prospects while building a disciplined, metrics-driven development operation that supports BGCT's long-term growth. This role will assume increasing ownership of donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and long-range development strategy, freeing the President & CEO to focus on large-scale management and strategic initiatives. This position directly supervises development-related staff, including individual and annual giving, corporate and foundation giving, grants, donor stewardship, development operations, and special events, while establishing clear accountability, measurable performance expectations, and an integrated team approach to achieving BGCT's annual and long-term resource development goals. Primary Responsibilities Develop and lead execution of an annual resource development plan, including the annual campaign, monthly giving, and a major gift program. Build and manage a personal major gift portfolio in partnership with the CEO, with a defined plan to assume increasing ownership of key donor relationships as trust transfers. Lead donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and retention using metrics-based moves management. Partner with the President/CEO on donor and resource development strategy for organizational growth initiatives, including any future affiliation, merger, or shared-services work. Set fundraising goals and strategy for special events and integrate them into the overall donor cultivation plan, in partnership with the Corporate Engagement and Events Manager — without owning event logistics directly. Identify and cultivate prospects across individual, corporate, and foundation sources, with growing attention to larger and national funder relationships as the organization scales. Directly supervise the development team, developing strategy and setting and managing revenue targets. Coordinate closely on donor data, moves management strategy development, and stewardship communications. Serve as point person for the volunteer Resource Development Committee and as a member of the volunteer Marketing Committee. Build board fundraising capacity through education, solicitation training, and direct support for board members' personal asks. Own accountability for achieving annual contributed-revenue goals and provide regular fundraising forecasts, pipeline reporting, and performance updates to the President & CEO. Build and continuously develop a qualified prospect pipeline, including the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major-gift prospects. Develop and manage the annual development budget and evaluate fundraising return on investment across campaigns, events, and donor acquisition and retention strategies. Partner with the Director of Programming and program leadership to translate program outcomes into compelling cases for support, donor impact stories, and stewardship communications. Help develop planned and legacy giving opportunities over time as part of BGCT's long-term resource development strategy. Ensure fundraising practices honor donor intent, confidentiality, applicable legal and regulatory requirements, and recognized standards of professional fundraising ethics. Skills & Experience Demonstrated success developing and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies across annual giving, major gifts, corporate giving, foundation support, and special campaigns. Demonstrated ability to personally cultivate, solicit, and close significant gifts and develop long-term donor relationships. Experience building and managing a major-gift portfolio using disciplined, metrics-based moves management. Strong understanding of donor stewardship, retention, pipeline development, prospect qualification, and donor-upgrade strategy. Experience setting fundraising goals, developing forecasts, and using metrics to evaluate performance and adjust strategy. Strong executive presence and ability to build trusted relationships with donors, business leaders, community partners, volunteers, and Board members. Ability to coach and support the President & CEO, Board members, and volunteers in donor cultivation and solicitation. Experience leading and developing fundraising professionals and creating accountability around revenue goals. Strong CRM and donor-data discipline, including accurate portfolio stages, next actions, reporting, and use of data to drive fundraising strategy; prior experience with donor database or fundraising CRM platforms is required, with the ability to quickly learn and effectively utilize the organization's current system. Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills. Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive fundraising/development experience, including meaningful major-gift responsibility. Demonstrated record of meeting or exceeding fundraising goals. Prior experience managing staff and working closely with executive leadership and Boards strongly preferred. CFRE or another relevant professional credential preferred but not required. Experience in a nonprofit, youth-serving, education, or community-based organization preferred. Demonstrated proficiency with donor database management, CRM reporting, gift tracking, and moves-management documentation. In-person work is expected most days of the week as well as for fundraising meetings and events. Work from home is possible up to 1-2 days per week.
