Director of Finance & Accounting

This role is the head of Finance & Accounting and a member of the Hotel Rehabs leadership team from day one. You'll own our financial strategy, lead and grow the F&A department, and be a true business partner shaping where the company goes next.

We're searching nationwide, and the role is based in Chicago. We're looking across the country for the right construction finance leader, and we expect that person to relocate to Chicago. If you have GC finance experience and are open to the move, we want to hear from you.

Construction is messy. Renovating hotels nationwide is even messier. That's why Hotel Rehabs doesn't need just a "finance person." Our goal is to grow 50% over the next three years, from $50MM to $100MM, and we need a finance leader who's energized by that target and ready to help write the strategy for getting there. That means someone who can dig into the details and step back to see the big picture.

Hotel Rehabs is a nationwide turn-key hotel renovation contractor and a five-time Inc. 5000 honoree, with offices in Chicago, Nashville, and Phoenix. We transform Hilton, Marriott, and IHG hotels into assets that drive revenue, improve the guest experience, and stand out in competitive markets.

This role is part Controller, part Director, part CFO. One day you're in the weeds solving a project accounting problem. The next you're at the table with the CEO and COO deciding how we fund, staff, and build for 50% growth. You'll lead three sharp F&A team members (soon to be four), build systems that scale, and give the company the financial visibility to make smarter, faster decisions.

Core Responsibilities

• Growth Strategy: Partner with the CEO and COO to build and carry out the financial plan for growing 50% in three years, covering capital, bonding capacity, margins, and team scale

• Leadership: Lead, manage, and develop your team, and hold it accountable

• Construction Accounting: Own the WIP schedule, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, over/under billings, job costing, and project-level profitability

• Business & Tax Compliance: Own multi-state contractor licensing, sales/use tax, and compliance across 35+ states (and growing)

• Cash, Bonding & Risk: Manage cash flow, surety/bonding and banking relationships, and insurance to protect and grow our financial strength

• Planning & Reporting: Build clarity with financial and operational metrics

• Budgeting & Forecasting: Help us see 12, 24, and 36 months ahead

• Fundamentals: AP/AR, retainage, lien waivers, and month-end close, all running smoothly

• Problem-Solving Partner: Work across the company to solve challenges, unlock growth, and improve performance

Who You Are

• A finance leader who's part operator, part strategist, and comfortable moving between the details and the big picture

• 7+ years leading finance at a general contractor or construction firm. You've owned the WIP schedule, not just reviewed it.

• Fluent in percentage-of-completion revenue (ASC 606), over/under billings, job costing, retainage, and change-order management

• Experienced managing bonding/surety and banking relationships

• Construction ERP experience. You've built reporting, not just pulled it.

• Energized by an ambitious growth goal, and you want a hand in shaping the strategy, not just reporting on it

• A proven leader who grows and coaches high-performing teams

• A strong communicator who is positive, upbeat, and solutions-focused

• Willing to relocate to Chicago, if not already local, and work a hybrid schedule with 2–3 days per week in the office.

• Construction Accounting experience is a requirement

Reflected below is the base salary range offered for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to skills and experience. The range listed is just one of the components of the compensation package offered to candidates. The compensation range is $150,000 - $200,000.
