Senior Principal Research Scientist, Protein Sciences

IDEAYA Biosciences seeks an experienced Senior Principal Research Scientist to lead protein production and characterization efforts for oncology drug discovery. The role combines hands-on laboratory work with team supervision, focusing on recombinant protein expression, purification, and support for multiple precision medicine programs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct hands-on protein expression, purification, and optimization for drug-discovery programs
• Develop construct designs and troubleshoot challenging proteins and protein complexes
• Supervise and mentor research associates and PhD-level scientists on the team
• Coordinate with internal functions and external CROs to deliver fit-for-purpose protein reagents
• Communicate scientific strategies and findings to project teams and research leadership

Requirements

• PhD with 9+ years hands-on recombinant protein production expertise
• Deep knowledge of bacterial and insect-cell expression systems
• Proven ability to develop and troubleshoot complex protein purification strategies
• Proficiency with protein characterization methods including SEC, thermal stability, and aggregation assessment
• Experience selecting, managing, and coordinating external CROs for protein services
• Ability to supervise and mentor research scientists and associates
