Through AMSURG, our clinician-led organization is changing the face of healthcare by delivering high-quality care that puts the patient first.Job DescriptionEssential duties and responsibilities include: following all policies and procedures of the center, using equipment effectively following manufacturer's instruction for use, using proper techniques and procedures according to accepted standards of practice, organizing nursing activities efficiently and effectively, continuously assessing and monitoring the physical and emotional status of the patient and documenting and reporting per policy and procedure, using two patient identifiers to assure correct patient and "ask don't tell" to identify correct procedure and physician, addressing patient needs specific to the anticipated procedure, transporting patients, as needed, observing policies, procedures and safety requirements, verifying and explaining procedure with the patient and discussing plan of care prior to transporting to procedure room, providing comfort and reassurance to each patient, maintaining patients privacy and dignity, working collaboratively with the healthcare team to provide safe continuity of patient care, actively participating as a team member in support of the total endoscopy process, organizing time, activities, equipment, supplies and personnel to provide efficient, cost effective patient care, delegating activities appropriate to the abilities of available staff members, supervising and directing patient care in pre, intra and post-op, reviewing patient's medical record and needs to provide continuity of care in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team and communicating variances, considering cost containment by using supplies economically and by managing efficient turnover time, assisting with supplies, drugs and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability; maintaining order and cleanliness of pre procedure area(s), endoscopy room and PACU, working collaboratively with the healthcare team to prepare for the patient in their assigned area according to requirements of the patient, physician and procedure to include but not limited to, assembling and providing functions equipment, supplies and instruments including sterilization and high level disinfection of supplies and equipment, administering medication(s) per order of the physician and documenting appropriately, monitoring and reporting any abnormal observed complications to the anesthesia provider and physician, accurately comprehending and interpreting physician orders and direction, following policy and procedures, documenting in the patients medical record and other forms accurately, legibly and timely in a timely manner, following policies and procedures, proper aseptic and sterile techniques are used according to acceptable standards of practice – monitors and identifies breaks in sterile technique, demonstrating ongoing competencies with patient assessment and appropriate interventions when variances occur, assessing each patient for fall precautions and addressing per policy, successfully able to start patient peripheral IV, participating in the time out, using the safe surgical checklist, working collaboratively with healthcare team to ensure physician preference cards are maintained and updated as needed, handling and logging tissue specimens correctly and accurately according to policy and procedures, ensuring the appropriate and safe positioning of the patient meeting patient needs and the planned procedure and monitoring throughout the procedure, monitoring and assessing patient for recovery from anesthesia, preparing patient for discharge to include: assisting with dressing, discharge instructions, medication reconciliation and follow-up physician appointment with patient and responsible adult, determining and documenting patient and responsible adult understanding of the discharge instructions and indications for seeking emergent care, developing a plan of care, based on patient needs, related to the procedure and type of anesthesia, attending all required education, performing other miscellaneous duties as assigned.Position QualificationsGraduate of Accredited School of Nursing, RN with active license, no restrictions (DE), one (1) year of nursing experience, preferably, in an ambulatory surgery center, CPR certification and/or ACLS-PALS certification (as required by Center), strong ethical and moral character references, basic computer skills.EOE StatementAMSURG is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
