• Pay Rate: $48.00 / Hour (USD)
• Shift / Schedule: Night Shift, 12-hour nights — 18:45–07:15 (3x12); Every other weekend required

Job Summary

This is a travel/contract Registered Nurse opportunity in the Neuro ICU at a Comprehensive Stroke Center. The unit serves a high-acuity neurological patient population including strokes (ischemic and hemorrhagic [SAH]), SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents, carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis. Drains used on the unit include EVDs, LDs, hemovacs, and Camino (ICP monitoring). The unit operates as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, with stroke patients representing one of the largest patient populations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct care to high-acuity neurological and neurosurgical patients in the Neuro ICU setting
• Manage ventilated patients and perform IV starts
• Perform interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Administer blood products and manage central lines
• Manage continuous IV sedation
• Provide CVA/Acute Stroke management for patients including ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke presentations
• Manage External Ventricular Drains (EVD) and Lumbar Drains
• Perform ICP Monitoring
• Provide Post Neurosurgery management
• Apply Isolation Precautions and proper use of PPE
• Utilize unit systems including Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR
• Operate specialized equipment including EVD, Lumbar Drains, Camino, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun
• Float per unit requirements as needed
• Maintain patient ratios of 2:1 (with flexibility up to 3:1 during high census — nurse must be comfortable with this if needed)

Education Requirements

• Active RN License required
• ACLS certification required
• BCLS certification required
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIH) certification required

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Neuro ICU required (no exceptions)
• First-time travelers will NOT be accepted — prior travel/contract experience required

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

• Patient ratios: 2:1 (can flex up to 3:1 during high census; nurse must be comfortable with this if needed)
• Average Daily Census: 11–12
• Float requirement: Yes
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Call requirement: None
• RTO after booking is NOT allowed and is NOT allowed to be worked out onsite
• Any call-offs or additional RTO on unit could result in a Cancel and DNR
• Flu vaccine required (Medical/Religious Exemptions only)
• Scrubs: Navy blue & white
• Scheduling type: Per unit needs

Important Notes

• Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty
• Candidate must have a minimum of 2 years in Neuro ICU specifically — if candidate does not meet this requirement, please redirect
• Strong Neuro Critical Care background required — general ICU experience alone is not sufficient
• Unit orientation: 24.0 hours (2 days or 2 nights)
• RTO maximum: 7 days for AYA Auto Offer
• Locals accepted (rate difference applies)
