Job Summary:

The Senior Fluoroscopy Technologist is an experienced professional with strong collaboration and leadership skills. In this role, the incumbent will support a collaborative team of technologists by providing day-to-day guidance and mentorship and supporting quality assurance and control activities. The incumbent will perform all duties associated with the acquisition of fluoroscopy images during interventional spine procedures, and will be responsible for the care of the patient while in the fluoroscopy and pre/post-procedure areas.

Job Responsibilities:

• Greet and interact with patients, visitors, vendors, and all faculty and staff.
• Schedule and arrive procedures in Epic and other systems as needed.
• Perform fluoroscopic exams:
• • Review imaging requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. Review all questionable orders with the radiologist and, at the radiologist’s discretion, the referring physician.
  • Assist physicians in the performance of minimally invasive and invasive fluoroscopic-guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Position the patient and select appropriate options to ensure best-case imaging.
  • Observe the patient in the procedure area for any change in status and take appropriate action, or contact the primary caregivers for instructions.
  • Systematically enter data into the fluoroscopy machine and transfer images to the PACS.
  • Judge the diagnostic quality of finished medical images prior to submission to a radiologist for interpretation.
  • Offer detailed explanation of diagnostic procedures to patients and answer questions as appropriate, including via pre-procedure and post-procedure calls.
  • Under the guidance and approval of the physician, calculate, measure, administer, and record contrast media received, used, and disposed of.
• Assist in maintaining the fluoroscopic image database for reference.
• Operate and maintain equipment on a daily basis, maintaining logbooks with equipment performance data: schedule PM, perform QA, maintain records required for and participate in inspections. Perform machine and dose calibrator equipment quality checks daily, quarterly, and annually, and troubleshoot problems. Call for service and notify all pertinent team members.
• Perform clerical responsibilities associated with the acquisition, processing, and archiving of patient records.
• Complete and sign all relevant paperwork for clinical studies and explain the procedure and safety precautions to the patient.
• Cooperate with facility healthcare professionals and comply with facility policies and procedures to ensure that occupational radiation exposures stay as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA).
• Other duties as assigned within the professional scope of practice/training/education.

Administrative Duties

• Support smooth operations of practice by assisting with front-end or clinical support duties during fluoroscopic downtime, such as rooming patients, answering phones, returning patient calls, obtaining authorizations, or other duties as delegated.
• Contribute ideas for improving practice workflows to team members, providers, and management.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements at all times.
• Keep current on all organizational, practice, and patient privacy policies (e.g., infection control, HIPAA) and required trainings. Maintain technical competency through continued education as required by accrediting and licensing bodies.
• Maintain a safe and secure work environment by following all OSHA, EH&S, and public safety policies and guidelines.

Role-Specific Duties

• Assist with onboarding and training of new or less experienced technologists. Share knowledge and offer guidance/mentorship to facilitate team collaboration and a supportive environment.
• May assist the manager to ensure adequate coverage and address related issues as directed.
• Participate in debriefing and quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient care. Bring safety and quality events, concerns, and needs to debriefs/safety huddles. Collaborate with team members on quality-related projects.
• Assist the manager with Quality Control and Assurance measures, including testing and auditing as appropriate.
• Increase transparency, encourage event reporting, and advance the safety culture by participating in and facilitating safety huddles, patient safety activities, culture reinforcement, and shared learning.
• Assist with acquiring images for ACR accreditation.
• Participate in inspection and inspection readiness activities.

Job Qualifications:

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• A minimum of 4 years’ relevant experience, including broad exposure to fluoroscopic studies.
• NYS License, ARRT - Radiography (R) certified.
• NYS certified to inject contrast media.
• Current BLS required.
• Demonstrated leadership proficiency in a team environment, including communication, training/knowledge-sharing, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated participation in continuous improvement, quality, or safety initiatives.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong ability to de-escalate stressful situations.
• Strong service orientation, including interpersonal and communication skills, emotional intelligence, and ability to deliver consistent, exceptional service while demonstrating tact, respect, and sensitivity.
• Strong aptitude for detail, flexibility, punctuality, and ability to work independently.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to make sound judgments and execute the appropriate actions based on the needs of patients and knowledge of facility policies and procedures.
• Must be an engaged team member, demonstrating collaboration, inclusion, reliability, and adaptability to new and changing situations.
• Ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and respectful manner while appreciating the unique contributions of an inclusive workforce that brings together the talents of people across multiple identities.
• Strong commitment to fostering diversity and equity.
• Basic proficiency in computer skills, including, but not limited to, Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, email systems, etc.
• Must be a motivated individual with a positive mindset and exceptional work ethic.
• Prior experience supporting training and onboarding activities is preferred.
• Associate degree preferred.
