Come join our team! The Bakery at Gimme is the exclusive baked goods supplier for Gimme! Coffee, a specialty coffee roaster/retailer founded in 2000, with locations in NYC and Ithaca, NY. All pastries are house-made daily, and delivered to each of our Ithaca locations. It's a fun and fast-paced environment with opportunities for learning and advancement.

The bakery prep assistant is responsible for measuring recipe components, weighing ingredients, portioning product, restocking inventory, delivering pastries, and cleaning, as well as other general bakery related tasks. Must be prompt and reliable with own transportation.

SCHEDULE:

• Monday-Friday 6am-230p

• May need to cover some weekend shifts as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIESBaking & Prep (Major)

• Efficiently and accurately portions ingredients as per standardized recipes using gram scales, working within time allotted and according to specifications.

• Clearly labels and dates all prep.

• Accurately boxes weekly baked goods as per par sheets.

• Assists in production of some baked goods, including, but not limited to: scooping muffins, mixing scone batters, filling fruit turnovers.

• Constantly monitors quality of prepared goods; promptly communicates issues with teammates.

• Cooperates with team and suggests ideas to improve work-flow and minimize waste.

• Stays late to get job done if necessary; calls for coverage if unable to work; covers shifts in emergencies.

Delivery (Major)

• Boxes pastries for delivery.

• Drives to upstate Gimme! Coffee locations and delivers pastries in a safe and timely manner.

Stocking & Inventory Maintenance (Minor)

• Replenishes and organizes ingredient stock.

• Assists with putting orders away properly.

• Labels and rotates product accurately.

Cleaning (Minor)

• Washes dishes.

• Deep cleans bakery equipment on a regular basis.

• Assists in general clean-up and sanitation of bakery as needed.

• Maintains work area in a neat, clean, sanitary and orderly manner.

• Observes all Gimme! Coffee approved sanitation and safety procedures at all times.

Other Essential Functions

• Performs other duties as requested by supervisor. The Employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.

QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Non-smoker preferred, as keen tasting and smelling abilities are a key component of the job

• Ability to identify product by sight, smell, and taste

• Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record

• Punctual and reliable

• Basic math skills

• Interest in baking

• Ability to understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions and request clarification when needed

• Ability to learn quickly

• Ability to adapt and learn new procedures

• Close attention to detail

• Organized, efficient, and excellent at multitasking

• Documentation of being at least 18 years of age and eligible to work in the United States

Experience, Education, and Training

• Previous experience in a production baking facility preferred but not necessary

• Experience using gram scales

• Familiar with commercial bakery equipment

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is subject to the following requirements:

• Physical activities: Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Fingering, Grasping, Feeling, Talking, Hearing, and Repetitive Motion.

• Physical requirements: Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned, to operate machinery, and to make general observations of facilities or structures. The worker is frequently required to taste and smell coffee and/or food for evaluation purposes. The worker must be able to work with the following allergens: milk, eggs, wheat, tree nuts and peanuts. The worker may be required to work more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.

• Working conditions: The worker is subject to environmental conditions inside and outside, noise, vibration, hazards (such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals), atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation), and is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.

• Tools used: Ovens, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, sinks, commercial mixers, and small kitchen appliances; Hand trucks and dollies; Cars and trucks; Ladders and stairs; Computers and office equipment.

COMPENSATION
