Essential Functions Nursing Care Functions Direct and oversee the nursing staff to ensure nursing procedures comply with current policies and protocols. Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure accurate administration. Perform direct care activities as needed. Participate in the development of policies and procedures related to resident care. Conduct daily rounds of the nursing unit to verify staff adherence to nursing standards. Coordinate nursing services with other resident services for continuity of care. Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s CQI/QA program. Complete and investigate accident/incident reports and assist with abuse/neglect reporting to agencies. Act as a liaison between physician, resident, family, and care team to ensure accurate documentation of physician orders. Complete and update the HCFA 802 weekly in preparation for interdisciplinary meetings. Initiate and resolve follow‑up and problem charting as needed. Participate in weekly resident and family care conferences. Care Plan & Assessment Function Review new admissions and transfers for appropriate assessment and documentation. Ensure completion of all assessments required for the RAI process. Develop, review, and update written plans of care to reflect resident goals and nursing needs. Monitor and assess seriously ill residents as needed. Determine appropriate use of chemical and physical restraints/devices with the interdisciplinary team. Review nursing notes and NA care sheets for compliance with the plan of care. Participate in the MDS/RAI process; review accuracy and timeliness per federal requirements. Communicate directly with the MDS/PPS Coordinator and/or Medicare Nurse. Committee Functions Serve on and participate in various committees and meetings of the facility as assigned. Personnel Functions Coordinate staffing patterns and productive nursing hours as delegated by the Director of Nursing. Hold staff accountable for following policies and procedures outlined in the employee handbook and job descriptions. Complete employee evaluations promptly as directed. Assist with disciplinary actions assigned by the Director of Nursing. Coordinate and conduct routine nursing staff meetings on the assigned unit. Be on‑call as delegated by the Director of Nursing Services. Attend required in‑services and complete assigned online modules. Staff Development Assist the education director in identifying ongoing educational and training needs. Environment, Safety and Sanitation Follow up on all accident and incident reports and report to the Director of Nursing within facility time protocols. Observe staff for proper safety techniques and infection control policies and procedures. Ensure the nursing unit environment is clean, safe, clutter‑free, and homelike. Supervise meal service to maintain quality of life regarding the dining experience. Other Duties All other duties as assigned. Qualifications 3+ years of experience as a supervisor or manager of a LTC facility. Current licensure in the state of employment as a Registered Nurse. Ability to resolve resident needs utilizing an interdisciplinary team. Enforces adherence to agency regulations (MDH). Excellent judgment, supervision, nursing skills, assessment, and delegation. Technical knowledge of EMR function. Ability to retain nursing staff through coaching, counseling, discipline, monitoring, and job appraisal. Demonstrates leadership ability and effective communication with staff, families, and outside agencies. Ability to prioritize duties and complete assigned tasks in a constantly changing environment. Effective management and supervisory skills. Clinical competence using the nursing process for physical and cognitive assessments of residents. Proficiency with computers and electronic devices for timekeeping, in‑service, and documentation. Benefits $10,000 hire/retention bonus over 2 years, first bonus paid December 2016.
