Job Description

The Machine Operator sets up and operates spring winding and related production equipment to manufacture springs that meet strict quality standards and customer specifications. This role involves running winding machines, robotics, heat treatment, cooling, coating, stenciling/coning, and paint processes, while organizing and staging finished product for timely shipment.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate production cell equipment, including spring winding machines, robotics, ovens, paint systems, conveyors, and stencil/coning machines, to produce springs within customer specifications, quality standards, tolerances, and production schedules.
• Select and load appropriate robot program options based on production requirements.
• Monitor workflow through heat treatment, coating, and cooling processes to ensure consistent quality and output.
• Perform changeovers and verify that proper tooling is installed and used according to specifications.
• Unload finished products onto pallets and/or carts, ensuring correct quantities per bundle and proper organization.
• Ensure all production is accurately identified with the correct pallet identification and labeling.
• Select appropriate printing templates on the stenciling machine for each work order.
• Use bar codes on work orders to control stencil printing and processing in line with quality and customer requirements.
• Complete preventative maintenance and basic testing on machines, paint systems, and conveyor systems to ensure proper operation, finish, and product quality.
• Read and follow work orders and production instructions accurately.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools such as tape measures to support setup, adjustments, and quality checks.
• Perform packaging, inspection, and packing of finished products to meet quality and shipping standards.
• Assist with troubleshooting basic mechanical issues on production equipment to minimize downtime.
• Handle materials and perform pallet building and general material handling as needed.
• Lift and move heavy materials and products regularly, following safe lifting practices.

Essential Skills

• At least 6 months of manufacturing or machine operation experience.
• Proficiency in operating production machinery, including machine operation and general production tasks.
• Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds on a regular basis.
• Experience with general labor tasks such as pallet building and material handling.
• Ability to read and follow work orders and production instructions.
• Comfort using hand tools and hand-held equipment in a production environment.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to assist with troubleshooting equipment issues.
• Attention to detail for inspection, packaging, and ensuring correct identification and labeling of products.
• Ability to work 10-hour days and adjust to changing production needs and schedules.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with machine operating in a high-volume production environment.
• Familiarity with heavy lifting and safe material handling practices.
• Experience using hand and power tools in a manufacturing setting.
• Experience in packaging, inspection, and packing processes.
• Mechanical troubleshooting experience on production equipment.
• Comfort working with bar code systems and stencil printing equipment.
• Experience working with robotics, ovens, conveyors, and paint systems is a plus.

Work Environment

This role is based in a large production facility with plenty of room to move and work efficiently. The environment is clean, well-organized, and has been recently remodeled and expanded to support growing operations. An industrial air conditioning unit helps maintain a temperature-controlled workspace for improved comfort. The standard schedule is 1st shift, Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with typical days averaging around 10 hours. Start and end times may shift earlier or later (such as 4:00 a.m. or 5:00 a.m. starts or staying later) based on production needs and incoming orders, which can arrive during the day and may require schedule adjustments on short notice. The role involves regular heavy lifting, use of hand and power tools, and standing, walking, and working around machinery throughout the shift.

This is a Permanent position based out of Minneapolis, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr.
