The Georgia Tech School of Architecture is committed to educating architects who can engage the complexity of contemporary practice while helping to shape the future of the built environment. Our programs connect design with technology, research, history and theory, professional practice, and broader questions of environmental and social responsibility. Lecturers play an important role in this educational mission, bringing disciplinary expertise, professional knowledge, and a strong commitment to teaching into the classroom and studio.

Job Summary

The School of Architecture (arch.gatech.edu) at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia invites applications for a Lecturer in Architecture. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position focused primarily on teaching and contributing to the instructional mission of the School.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to architectural education and the ability to contribute meaningfully to the School's undergraduate and/or graduate programs. We seek candidates whose teaching and professional experience support the integration of design, technical knowledge, representation, and critical inquiry within architectural education. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the teaching and mentoring of students.

Responsibilities

The Lecturer will teach courses within the School of Architecture based on curricular needs and the candidate's areas of expertise. Teaching responsibilities may include architectural design studios as well as courses in one or more areas such as architectural representation and media, building technologies, computational design, or other areas that support the School's degree programs.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

Provide high-quality instruction grounded in contemporary architectural knowledge, methods, and practices.

Develop and deliver course content that advances student learning and supports the broader goals of the architecture curriculum.

Mentor and advise students through coursework, design reviews, and other academic activities.

Contribute to coordination across courses and curricular sequences, including collaboration with faculty teaching within shared or coordinated courses.

Participate in the intellectual and academic life of the School, including reviews, lectures, exhibitions, workshops, and other School activities.

Contribute appropriate service to the School consistent with the expectations of a Lecturer appointment.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must hold a professional degree in architecture (B.Arch. or M.Arch.) or a graduate degree in architecture or a closely related field by the start of the appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate:

Knowledge of architecture appropriate to the courses they will teach.

Evidence of, or strong potential for, effective teaching at the university level.

Ability to communicate architectural ideas and knowledge clearly to students with varying levels of experience.

Commitment to collaborative teaching and to contributing to a rigorous and supportive academic environment.

Preference may be given to candidates who bring one or more of the following:

Prior experience teaching architecture at the university level.

Professional experience in architecture or a closely related design field.

Professional architectural licensure.

Expertise that complements the School's current curricular needs.

Experience connecting design education with contemporary issues in architectural practice, technology, building performance, computation, fabrication, urbanism, or other emerging areas of the discipline.

A record of professional, creative, scholarly, or pedagogical work that demonstrates continued engagement with architecture and the built environment.

The ability to teach and mentor a multifaceted student body.

The ability to engage students in experiential learning activities and pedagogy that support student success.
