Responsibilities Operate a mammography unit to produce images under physician direction. Explain procedure, position and immobilize patient’s breast, observe scanning process. Monitor video display, adjust density/contrast to improve picture quality. Review and evaluate images to determine if satisfactory. Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with regulations. Work Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:00am-4:30pm; Wednesday 10:00am-6:30pm; one Saturday per month 8:00am-12:00pm. Review mammography requisition and computer exam forms. Accurately position patients, determine exposure factors and operate equipment. Determine quality of processed images and need for additional images. Educate patients about procedures, equipment and exam. Ensure patient safety and comfort during and after exam. Acquire, archive, transmit and print images via CAD and PACS. Complete after-hours transmission of images and paperwork. Report malfunctions to help desk and PACS Administrator. Process billing via RIS. Assist with policies and procedures, compliance and credentialing. Assist with instrument calibration and records, maintain quality assurance. Perform equipment checks and notify clinical engineering of malfunctions. Ensure exam rooms supply linen and medical supplies. Provide teaching and mentoring to new hires and students. Strive to learn new technical info and skills through in-service and professional affiliation. Rotate through all diagnostic imaging modalities, sites or locations. Minimum Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology. Registered Technologist credentialed by ARRT (RT(R)). Certification in Mammography (RT(R) M). Current state licensure (RL) required prior to employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Completion of 40 hours mammography training. Knowledge of anatomy and related pathologic processes. Preferred Qualifications One year of experience as a General Radiologic Technologist. Physical Requirements Requires standing and walking for extended periods. Must be able to lift or assist with lifting patients of varying weight and manipulate equipment daily. Personal Protective Equipment Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
