Job Title: Rotor CNC Lathe Operator Job Description

Join a specialized manufacturing team that designs and produces power sections—specifically rotors and stators—used in downhole mud motors for oil, gas, and thru-tubing drilling. In this role, you operate CNC lathes and Weingartner equipment to machine precision rotor components, interpret mechanical blueprints, and make program edits to ensure accurate threading and dimensions.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC lathes and Weingartner machines to manufacture rotor components according to specifications.

• Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, including lengths, diameters, angles, and threading requirements.

• Set up CNC machines, including tooling, offsets, and fixtures, to prepare for production runs.

• Run CNC programs and make minor edits to threading and other machining parameters as needed.

• Perform multiple changeovers per day, adjusting setups and programs for different parts and jobs.

• Monitor machine operations to ensure quality, accuracy, and consistency of machined parts.

• Inspect finished parts to verify they meet dimensional and quality requirements.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures in the machining environment.

• Collaborate with team members to support efficient production and continuous improvement of machining processes.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience operating CNC machines, including CNC lathes.

• Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints with detailed dimensions and angles.

• Experience making edits to CNC programs, including Mazak programming for threading and other operations.

• Familiarity with performing multiple machine changeovers per day.

• Competence in machine operation, including setup, basic troubleshooting, and adjustment of machining parameters.

• Attention to detail and ability to maintain tight tolerances on machined parts.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with complex machining equipment such as Weingartner machines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience operating both Mazak and Weingartner equipment is highly beneficial.

• Background in rotor or similar precision component manufacturing is a plus.

• Ability to work extended shifts and high weekly hours while maintaining quality and safety.

• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a production team.

• Comfort working in both climate-controlled and non-climate-controlled areas of a manufacturing facility.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility where approximately two-thirds of the environment is climate controlled due to process control requirements, while some areas remain non-climate controlled. The position requires working on extended 12-hour shifts: day shift typically runs from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and night shift from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., with an expected workload of approximately 60–70 hours per week. The team currently needs CNC lathe operators for both day and night shifts, as well as a Weingartner operator for nights. You will work around heavy machining equipment and follow standard industrial safety practices, in a setting focused on precision manufacturing and continuous production.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $27.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
