SUMMARY The Turret Lathe Operator performs a wide variety of complex set ups and operation of all departmental machines to create, design or develop tooling, fixtures and repair or build parts for specified applications or adaptations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or over three years up and including five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations and to other employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply basic trigonometry. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables. - Work from drawings, concepts, advanced trades practices, work orders and verbal instructions to machine a part or tool to exacting tolerances and specifications.
- Maintain close tolerances and related dimensions using various materials and machining operations.
- Select and layout material.
- Plan sequence of operations, use of tooling and type of machine used.
- Adapt or build jigs, fixtures or other holding devices.
- Finish gears, shafts, jaws, keyways, tooling and other machine parts for rework, repair, development and prototypes.
- Analyze problems and troubleshoot difficulties to improve operations, quality and efficiency for the company.
- Assist and train less experienced personnel to advance their skills and meet expected performance standards.
- Operate manual and programmable machines such as, but not limited to lathes, grinders, millers, drill presses, shaper, saws, bench equipment and power tools.
- Use precision measuring instruments, handbook formulas, calculator, data terminal, software programs and trade mathematics.
- Refer questionable conditions to supervisor or appropriate personnel.
- Responsible to prepare and submit/record production records, accurate piece counts, reports and forms required by company procedures.
- Observe all company policies and regulations including safety, housekeeping and quality of work with support of ISO procedures and standards.
- Utilize individually and/or further the use of total quality concepts, tools and techniques to support continuous quality improvement in all processes in which the position participates with a positive "Can Do" attitude.
- Support, encourage and maintain a positive team working atmosphere throughout the company.
- Perform other duties as requested or necessary to meet business conditions and changes.
