The Opportunity: The fourth-grade two-way teacher will provide students with instruction in Spanish and English. The successful candidate will: Work cooperatively with grade-level, cluster, and whole-school teams of teachers, including specialists in the areas of ESL, SSL, and Special Education. Plan and implement an academically and linguistically active curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and socially/culturally responsive to the needs of the dual language student population. Have experience planning, implementing, and adapting an ongoing curriculum, which is based on the Massachusetts State Frameworks, as well as the local Cambridge Learning Expectations for fourth grade. Work collaboratively with parents and guardians to engage them in classroom activities and school-wide events. Be a thoughtful and reflective practitioner who demonstrates intellectual curiosity by asking insightful questions. Your Skill Set: As the incoming fourth grade teacher you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university, including coursework in first and second language acquisition. High levels or native language proficiency in Spanish and English, including listening, speaking, reading, grammar and writing. Familiarity with and appreciation of fourth-grade students, their needs, and interests. Previous and successful experience working in a multicultural environment and demonstrated implementation of culturally responsive practices that includes students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds. Creativity and passion for dual language and anti-racist teaching. Appropriate Massachusetts Certification: Foreign Language Certification 1-6 (Spanish), Elementary 1-6.
