Job Summary A Deputy City Marshal I is a law enforcement officer position appointed by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). The primary responsibilities include bringing wanted parties before the Court, providing bailiffs, and patrolling Lake Worth. The Marshal’s Division is made up of four sections. Marshal Division Sections Building Security: responsible for maintaining physical security of the Fort Worth City Hall, Public Safety Building, and other facilities and parking areas. Deputy Marshals also work as bailiffs, maintaining decorum of the Court and safety of staff and public. Warrant Section: brings wanted parties before the Court, works with the Fort Worth Police Department to arrest wanted parties, enforce traffic laws, and respond to radio calls for service. Lake Patrol: enforces maritime laws at Lake Worth and assists the Fort Worth Police Department; primary goal to ensure a safe environment for the public on the lake and surrounding parks; responsible for search and rescue and emergency response on the lake and surrounding waterways. Bike Patrol: patrols the downtown campus including City Hall, Public Safety Building, and associated area; works with the Fort Worth Police Department to maintain peace in downtown Fort Worth. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma/GED Valid driver’s license Valid Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Peace Officer’s License at the time of hire Must pass physical, swim and rowing test 2,000-meter row - must be completed within 11 minutes (two attempts permitted) Handcuffing an individual - pass/fail Vertical lift of 30 lbs. - pass/fail Vertical lift of 50 lbs. - pass/fail Preferred Qualifications Intermediate Texas Peace Officer’s license or higher Completed minimum TCOLE training hours for the training cycle and continued education Marine Safety Enforcement Officer Certification Firearms proficiencies in pistol, shotgun, and rifle platforms Completed procedural justice training Bilingual Skillset Job Responsibilities Operates security screening checkpoints; searches and inspects persons and their property entering secure facilities for prohibited weapons, explosives, and other contraband Serves as court bailiff in assigned courts and performs related duties; ensures the safety and security of the courtroom, jury, and trial participants at all times Responds to emergencies and incidents in the Municipal Courts, City Hall Complex, and in/around Lake Worth Transports prisoners to and from surrounding jurisdictions; ensures proper restraint of prisoners during transportation Conducts traffic stops and investigations, enforces traffic laws and water or boating laws; issues citations as required Detains, questions, and investigates persons suspected of violating court orders Serves warrants and arrest persons named there in and testifies in court when required to do so Completes and maintains accurate reports, inventories, and documents Working Conditions & Physical Demands Depending on assignment, positions typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, swimming, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting. Medium work – positions typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly moving objects. Applicants must pass a CJIS fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Disqualifying conditions include felony convictions, misdemeanor convictions, and family violence convictions, as listed.
