Apply to be the newest Snorkeler!Accounting Manager, Technical Accounting & Financial ReportingRedwood City, CA (Hybrid); San Francisco, CA (Hybrid); United States (Remote)About The RoleWe are seeking a highly motivated Accounting Manager, Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting to play a key role in building and scaling Snorkel's accounting organization.This position combines technical accounting expertise with operational excellence. You will partner closely with the Controller and Accounting team to own key areas of the monthly close, prepare technical accounting analyses, support financial statement audits, and help establish scalable accounting processes and internal controls.The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex accounting issues while remaining hands-on in day-to-day accounting operations. You thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, embrace ambiguity, and enjoy building processes that support a rapidly scaling business.What You'll DoMonth-End Close & General AccountingSupport and help lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules.Perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations and investigate reconciling items.Prepare monthly flux analyses and explain significant balance sheet and income statement variances.Ensure the integrity of the general ledger and compliance with U.S. GAAP.Assist in improving close processes with the goal of achieving a world-class close timeline.Technical AccountingResearch, document, and implement technical accounting guidance under U.S. GAAP.Prepare technical accounting memos supporting complex accounting conclusions.Partner with business leaders to evaluate accounting implications of new transactions and commercial arrangements.Maintain accounting policies and ensure consistent application across the organization.Areas of ownership may include:ASC 606 Revenue RecognitionASC 842 Lease AccountingStock-based Compensation (ASC 718)Equity transactions and equity rollforwardDebt accounting and warrant accountingBusiness combinations and asset acquisitions, as applicableSignificant estimates and management judgmentsCapitalized software and internal-use software accountingNew accounting standard implementationsFinancial ReportingPrepare financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with U.S. GAAP.Support quarterly and annual financial reporting requirements.Prepare audit-ready workpapers and accounting schedules.Assist in preparing disclosures for financial statements.Develop standardized reporting packages for management and external stakeholders.Audit & Internal ControlsServe as a primary accounting contact for external auditors.Coordinate audit requests and maintain organized supporting documentation.Prepare accounting position papers and respond to technical accounting inquiries from auditors.Support walkthroughs, testing, and implementation of internal controls.Assist with developing and documenting accounting policies, narratives, and process documentation.Cross-Functional PartnershipPartner with Finance, Legal, Revenue, People, and Operations to support new initiatives.Review customer contracts for accounting implications.Support equity issuances, financing activities, and strategic transactions.Assist with bonus accruals, commission accounting, and other compensation-related accounting.Participate in special projects, system implementations, and process improvement initiatives.Process ImprovementIdentify opportunities to automate accounting processes and improve operational efficiency.Build scalable accounting processes capable of supporting a rapidly growing organization.Develop best practices around reconciliations, documentation, and financial reporting.Help strengthen the company's internal control environment.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting.CPA required or actively pursuing CPA.5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting and/or high-growth technology companies.Strong technical accounting knowledge under U.S. GAAP.Experience supporting financial statement audits.Experience preparing technical accounting memos and accounting policy documentation.Strong understanding of financial statement preparation and financial reporting.Experience supporting month-end close in a fast-paced environment.Advanced knowledge of Excel and Google Sheets.Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities with exceptional attention to detail.Preferred QualificationsBig Four or national public accounting experience.CPA license.Experience in a high-growth SaaS, AI, or technology company.Experience with project-based, milestone-based, or services revenue models.Strong understanding of ASC 606.Experience with ASC 842 lease accounting.Experience accounting for stock-based compensation under ASC 718.Experience with equity accounting, capitalization tables, and equity rollforwards.Experience accounting for debt instruments, warrants, and other complex financing transactions.Experience supporting annual financial statement audits.Experience designing and documenting internal controls.Experience implementing accounting systems or ERP solutions.Familiarity with Salesforce, QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar financial systems.Bonus Points ForExperience building accounting functions in venture-backed startups.Experience with AI, cloud infrastructure, or professional services businesses.Experience with milestone or consumption-based revenue models.Experience with project accounting and percentage-of-completion or milestone billing environments.Experience preparing accounting white papers for auditors.Experience supporting due diligence for financing or M&A transactions.LocationBay
