Transit Market Sector Lead — NY/NJ Growth & Delivery

Position Overview The Transit Market Sector Leader (MSL) for the New York/New Jersey Area is responsible for driving the development and growth of HDR’s Transit Market Sector. The role focuses on business development, technical delivery, project execution and talent recruitment, providing strong client relationships and collaborating across business groups to grow the transportation business. Primary Responsibilities Promote and deliver all HDR services to clients within NY/NJ, working with client and project managers. Provide leadership to Transit Client Managers, driving client development and pursuit processes. Support NY/NJ area pursuits through client relationship development and pursuit strategy. Monitor marketing capabilities and provide Transit MS support to help achieve NY/NJ Area goals. Develop relationships with industry counterparts in other consulting organizations. Develop relationships with senior leadership in key Transit client organizations. Identify and recruit prospective future market sector employees. Collaborate with Market Sector Directors, Business Class Directors and marketing staff on local and national efforts. Participate in industry associations and act as a company role-model. Project Management Responsibilities Serve in major project delivery roles (Principal in Charge, Project Director, or Project Manager) for execution and production. Support project staffing, resourcing decisions and workload. Manage and supervise Transit MS staff as applicable. Coordinate with Business Class Leaders for MS services. Monitor financial performance indicators (NFE/NFB, profits, equity, AR, etc.). Collaborate with the Area Business Group Manager on market sector initiatives. Provide mentorship, training, and quality reviews to local staff. Perform additional duties as required. Preferred Qualifications 15 years in transportation planning and/or engineering with majority market sector experience. Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, planning or related field. Professional Engineer or Registered Architect licensed in NY or NJ (preferred). Experience with NY/NJ Transit clients (MTA, Amtrak, NJ Transit, PANYNJ PATH, etc.). Experience developing and managing strategic marketing programs. Experience building client relationships and pursuing projects. Experience in staff development (recruiting, career path, professional growth). Active involvement in industry associations. Ability to collaborate with sector directors and managers. Strong leadership, organization and prioritization skills. Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines. Preparing scopes, cost estimates, budgets and financial reports. Strong project management and self‑starter attitude. Experience implementing training, marketing, proposal and budget plans. Excellent written communication and listening skills. Contract development and project implementation experience. Oversight of large projects (> $5M fees, $100M construction). Demonstrated commitment to HDR values and employee‑owned culture. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, planning or related field. Minimum of 10 years industry experience. Maintain engineering registration if an engineer. Experience developing and managing strategic marketing programs. Experience building client relationships and pursuing projects. Experience in staff development (recruiting, career path, growth).
