Digital Projects' Snow Fellow, UMKC Libraries

Hiring Department University Libraries University of Missouri - Kansas City Job Description Reporting to the Head of Digital Projects, the Digital Projects’ Snow Fellow works closely with both the Digital Projects team and University Archives team to perform large‑scale digitization and description of the Edgar Snow collection. This Missouri State Library’s Library Services and Technology Act grant‑funded position will run from August 2026 to March 2027. The Digital Projects Fellow is a term‑limited, part‑time, non‑benefit eligible, senior academic fellow and has no supervisory responsibilities. Position Duties Trains on best practices in digitization and digitizes roughly 10% of the Edgar Snow collection for digital publication Trains on best practices in metadata and describes roughly 5–10% of the Edgar Snow collection for digital publication Trains on digital publication and publishes digital Snow objects in Digital Project’s Omeka S platform Provides regular promotional contributions for grant updates in the form of blog posts and social media, all coordinated with the Head of Digital Projects, the Head of Outreach and Engagement, and the Metadata Librarian Professionally engages with best practices in digital collections, in order to create good user experience for library users and the UMKC community Qualifications Minimum qualifications Must be a currently enrolled graduate student or recently graduated from a graduate program (within 6 months) to apply Adept at using computer and various applications; ability to learn new software and programs Dependable, professional, and flexible work philosophy Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills Preferred qualifications Some previous experience in digital collections and/or archives; internships, coursework, jobs, etc. Some experience with any type of content management systems; internships, coursework, jobs, etc. Comfortable with writing procedural and technical documentation Demonstrably good teamwork in past professional environments Clear and candid communicator Anticipated Hiring Range The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $20.00 per hour. Work Schedule, Location and Environment The weekly schedule for this fellow will be part‑time (20 hours per week) and should have significant overlap with the hours of the Digital Projects team, which varies by person, Monday‑Friday in the 8 AM–6 PM CST range. This position is located in the Miller Nichols Library on the UMKC campus. The work environment consists of an individual workstation cube outfitted with standard office technology including an individual laptop setup.
