CUSTODIAL LEAD

Hillside Fellowship

Reports To: Facilities + IT Team Lead

Schedule: Sunday - Thursday, with regular evening and weekend responsibilities

ROLE SUMMARY

The Custodial Lead serves under the direction of the Facilities + IT Team Lead to lead the day-to-day custodial care of Hillside Fellowship's campus, ensuring buildings and ministry spaces are consistently clean, safe, welcoming, and prepared to support ministry activities and events. This role provides day-to-day direction, quality assurance, and support for contracted custodial personnel and custodial volunteers while actively participating in custodial and campus-readiness responsibilities.

Working collaboratively with Facilities + IT staff, contractors, volunteers, and ministry teams, this role helps strengthen the overall care and readiness of Hillside's campus by coordinating custodial work, maintaining high standards of campus presentation, stewarding equipment and supplies, and responding to ministry needs with initiative, care, and consistent follow-through.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Campus Readiness + Custodial Care

• Coordinate and actively participate in custodial care across Hillside’s buildings and immediate exterior campus areas, including cleaning, laundry, waste removal, and general campus presentation
• Develop and carry out daily and weekly custodial work plans that support the timely completion of responsibilities by contractors and volunteers
• Ensure buildings, restrooms, learning environments, worship spaces, offices, and common areas are consistently clean, safe, welcoming, and prepared for ministry use
• Maintain the cleanliness, appearance, and safety of exterior public areas, including entrances, sidewalks, patios, breezeways, and other high-visibility campus spaces
• Maintain exterior waste receptacles and help ensure building entrances remain clean and inviting
• Perform light exterior appearance tasks and communicate landscape, irrigation, or maintenance concerns to the appropriate staff member or service provider

Contractor + Volunteer Coordination

• Provide day-to-day direction, communication, quality assurance, and accountability for contracted custodial personnel, serving as their primary on-site point of contact
• Coordinate and serve alongside custodial volunteers, providing clear assignments, practical support, and appropriate follow-through
• Communicate custodial priorities, schedules, expectations, and areas of responsibility to contractors and volunteers
• Review work completed by contractors and volunteers to ensure alignment with Hillside’s standards for cleanliness, safety, and campus presentation
• Identify opportunities to strengthen custodial workflows, improve efficiency, and promote consistency across custodial services

Campus Presentation + Quality Assurance

• Conduct routine inspections of buildings and campus areas to identify custodial needs and ensure established standards are consistently maintained
• Address immediate cleanliness or presentation concerns and coordinate appropriate follow-up when additional support is needed
• Monitor high-traffic and public-facing areas throughout the week, responding proactively to changing ministry and campus needs
• Help maintain a campus environment that reflects Hillside Fellowship’s commitment to warmth, welcome, stewardship, and excellence
• Identify facility maintenance concerns and submit or communicate them through the established facilities management process

Ministry Events + Campus Support

• Coordinate custodial readiness, cleanup, and related support for weekend services, ministry events, meetings, and special activities
• Assist with setup, teardown, and cleanup responsibilities as needed to support ministry and churchwide events
• Coordinate opening and closing procedures during assigned hours
• Respond to changing event schedules and ministry needs with flexibility, initiative, and a servant-hearted approach
• Partner with Facilities staff and ministry leaders to anticipate custodial and campus-readiness needs

Equipment + Supply Stewardship

• Maintain adequate inventory levels of custodial supplies, cleaning products, paper goods, and related materials
• Place approved orders or communicate purchasing needs in a timely manner to prevent interruptions in custodial services
• Maintain, inspect, and coordinate repairs for custodial equipment, including floor-care equipment, carpet cleaners, pressure washers, utility carts, and related tools
• Ensure custodial equipment and cleaning products are stored, maintained, and used in accordance with applicable safety procedures
• Support the responsible stewardship of custodial supplies and equipment by monitoring usage, condition, and replacement needs

Facilities Support + Collaboration

• Partner with the Facilities + IT Team Lead and other Facilities staff to support campus readiness and effective department operations
• Partner with the Facilities Maintenance Lead to support facility maintenance and improvement projects as workload, skill, and department priorities permit
• Build healthy working relationships with staff, contractors, volunteers, and ministry leaders in a collaborative and servant-hearted manner
• Communicate custodial concerns, supply needs, equipment issues, and areas requiring follow-up clearly and promptly
• Support the broader needs of the Facilities + IT team with flexibility and a servant-hearted approach

Additional Responsibilities

• This role may include additional responsibilities as needed to support the mission and leadership of Hillside Fellowship, with the scope of ministry growing and adapting as organizational needs change

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Faith + Character

• Demonstrates a maturing relationship with Jesus Christ and embodies the culture and values of Hillside Fellowship (Galatians 5:22-23)
• Must be a member of Hillside Fellowship or willing to pursue membership within six months of hire
• Demonstrates a commitment to Hillside Fellowship’s mission, vision, and values
• Models humility, integrity, initiative, stewardship, and a servant-hearted approach to work
• Demonstrates care for people and a desire to create clean, safe, and welcoming environments that support ministry

Education + Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum of one year of custodial, facilities, commercial cleaning, or related experience preferred
• Experience coordinating contractors, volunteers, or work teams preferred
• Experience using commercial custodial equipment and cleaning products preferred
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, safe-handling practices, and custodial safety procedures preferred

• Demonstrates strong interpersonal and customer-service skills with a welcoming and servant-hearted approach
• Ability to safely operate commercial custodial equipment, ladders, floor-care equipment, carpet cleaners, pressure washers, utility carts, and related tools
• Ability to pass a background check is required

Physical Requirements + Work Environment

• Ability to frequently lift and move equipment, materials, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds
• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods while working across multiple buildings and campus areas
• Ability to bend, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, twist, turn, reach, push, and pull while completing assigned responsibilities
• Ability to work safely in indoor and outdoor environments and in varying weather conditions
• Ability to use custodial equipment, cleaning products, and related tools in accordance with established safety procedures
• May be required to respond to custodial or campus-readiness needs during evenings, weekends, or special events
