Recreation Specialist

THE POSITION

Under general supervision, conduct special interest classes at various recreation centers; assist the reservations section by inputting and maintaining classes, activities, registration and managing the department's social media pages; and perform related duties as required. Key Qualifications Strong proficiency in customer service, with a proven record of assisting diverse groups of users in a helpful, patient, and solutions-driven manner. Experience working with or supporting recreation management systems (ActiveNet experience highly desirable). Ability to process registrations, reservations, payments, and account updates accurately while maintaining confidentiality and attention to detail. Comfortable with problem-solving and escalating issues appropriately when necessary. Ability to collaborate effectively with internal staff, respond to public inquiries, and maintain professionalism in fast-paced or high-volume situations. Strong organizational skills, time-management, and the ability to prioritize tasks while supporting daily program operations. Essential Duties Plans, organizes, and instructs special interest classes or programs. Develops and schedules classes for various age groups. Prepares reports on the status of the special interest class or program as needed. May be assigned duties as a sports official on an urgency basis. Qualifications Education and/or Experience: Completion of formal education sufficient to read and write at the level required for successful job performance and demonstrable proficiency in an appropriate area. Knowledge of Special interest area of instruction; correct English usage. Skills and Abilities Effectively communicate orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and deal tactfully with the public. Work Hours and Availability Part‑time, limited to a maximum of 960 hours per fiscal year. Work hours may vary between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with occasional weekend availability preferred.
