Clinical Nurse Coordinator Surgical Ortho Trauma

Del Sol Medical Center in El Paso, TX is seeking a Clinical Nurse Coordinator for our Surgical Ortho Trauma unit within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. As a key member of our dynamic nursing team, you will coordinate and deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to surgical, orthopedic, and trauma patients across the continuum of their hospitalization. Working in a full-service hospital and Level trauma environment, you will assist with complex post‑operative care, orthopedic fracture management, and trauma recovery, ensuring safe and effective clinical outcomes.

In this role, you will function as both a direct care provider and a clinical leader at the bedside. You will support and guide staff nurses and support personnel, help organize daily patient assignments, and promote adherence to clinical protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. You will collaborate closely with surgeons, hospitalists, anesthesiologists, therapists, case management, and other interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient plans of care, ensure timely interventions, and facilitate smooth transitions of care and discharges.

Your responsibilities will include ongoing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for a diverse adult patient population with surgical, orthopedic, and trauma needs. You will perform and oversee complex clinical tasks such as post‑operative monitoring, pain management, wound and drain care, neurovascular checks, mobility and fall-prevention protocols, and pre‑ and post‑operative patient and family education. You will help identify changes in patient condition, initiate appropriate interventions, and escalate concerns to the medical team as needed.

As a Clinical Nurse Coordinator, you will also assist with staff orientation, mentoring, and skills development on the unit, reinforcing best practices and fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. You will support charge nurse functions such as resource allocation, patient throughput, and collaboration with bed management, while maintaining a manageable patient assignment. Documentation of care in the electronic medical record, participation in quality and performance improvement initiatives, and adherence to infection prevention and patient safety protocols are core expectations of this position.
