We are looking for a knowledgeable and personable  Certified Firearms Instructor to join our growing instructional team.

Position Overview

The Firearms Instructor will provide classroom and live-fire instruction to students ranging from complete beginners to experienced firearm owners.

This position requires much more than firearms knowledge. The ideal instructor must be able to communicate clearly, remain patient with new shooters, maintain strict safety standards, and create an environment where students feel comfortable learning.

Instructors may assist with private lessons, concealed carry courses, beginner firearm training, range sessions, group events, and other Trouble Defense training programs.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional classroom and live-fire firearms instruction.
• Teach safe firearm handling, storage, loading, unloading, operation, and basic marksmanship.
• Demonstrate proper stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control, and firearm manipulation.
• Closely supervise students during live-fire exercises.
• Maintain strict adherence to firearm safety rules and range policies.
• Work effectively with first-time and inexperienced shooters.
• Identify and safely correct student shooting or firearm-handling issues.
• Create a welcoming, patient, and non-intimidating learning environment.
• Inspect training equipment and firearms before and after training when applicable.
• Assist with classroom setup, range preparation, targets, equipment, and cleanup.
• Accurately complete required student or training documentation.
• Maintain professional communication with students and Trouble Defense staff.
• Represent Trouble Defense LLC professionally while working with customers, ranges, community partners, and corporate clients.
• Participate in instructor meetings, training, and professional-development opportunities when required.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should have:

• Current firearms instructor certification from a recognized organization such as  NRA, USCCA, law enforcement, military, or another recognized firearms training organization .
• Strong understanding of firearm safety and range procedures.
• Demonstrated handgun proficiency.
• Excellent communication and customer-service skills.
• Ability to confidently teach students with little or no previous firearms experience.
• Patience and the ability to adjust instruction to different learning styles.
• Professional appearance and demeanor.
• Reliable transportation.
• Ability to work independently while following Trouble Defense policies and curriculum.
• Ability to pass applicable background requirements.
• Availability for some evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional consideration will be given to applicants with:

• Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit instructor qualifications.
• Maryland Qualified Handgun Instructor credentials.
• Washington, DC Certified Firearms Instructor credentials.
• USCCA or NRA instructor certifications.
• Range Safety Officer certification.
• Military or law-enforcement firearms training experience.
• First Aid, CPR, Stop the Bleed, or similar emergency-response training.
• Defensive handgun or advanced pistol instructor credentials.
• Experience teaching women, first-time shooters, seniors, individuals with disabilities, or other specialized student populations.
• Experience conducting private or small-group firearms instruction.

Multiple state credentials are preferred but  not required .
