Job Summary/Description:

The Vote-By-Mail (Back-Office) section of the Registrar of Voters is seeking positive, enthusiastic, and flexible people to work in a fast-paced, volume-driven environment for the upcoming November 3, 2026, Gubernatorial General Election.

This recruitment is open continuously and can close at any time once the business needs of the department have been met. Please apply immediately.

Schedule: The tentative assignment dates are October 5, 2026, through November 8, 2026. 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday Friday. May include weekends and extended hours

Examples of Duties:

Signature Checking:

• Use computer terminal to navigate voter database and access voter signatures
• Ability to perform repetitious tasks while using a computer terminal for prolonged periods of time
• Compare signature on affidavit(s) of registration with signature provided on return envelope
• Apply challenge codes to signatures that need additional review
• List any challenges made on the provided signature challenge form
• Print signature checking reports from the County's election management system
• Produce consistent results in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and procedures

Extraction:

• Count and confirm the number of envelopes in a tray
• Remove ballots from their return envelope using an OPEX Model 72 device
• Maintain voter anonymity by keeping the voter's information away from line of sight
• Screen ballots for damage or tears
• Inspect each ballot for red ink or light voter markings that need to be enhanced
• Prepare ballot cards for tabulation by backfolding and boxing extracted ballots
• Draft receipts that list the total number of ballots sent to tabulation
• Restock various work areas with necessary supplies
• Peek batches of empty envelopes to ensure that all ballots have been successfully extracted
• Box batches of empty envelopes in sequential order for filing purposes
• File empty envelopes and miscellaneous items in their designated staging area

Equipment Room:

• Assist with pre-election setup and post-election cleanup
• Setup signage around the ROV for voter parking, curbside voting, and ballot dropboxes
• Setup a drive-thru dropbox on campus
• Perform routine mail pickups of voted ballots, undeliverables, and other ROV correspondence
• Assist with driving and loading/unloading a box truck or cargo van
• Haul carts or APCs full of election material across multiple workstations
• Scan and image mail ballot returns using an industrial mail sorter
• Jog return envelopes in preparation for a fine sort and audit pass
• Operate a drill press on undeliverable mail ballot packages to render the ballot inside unusable
• Sort undeliverable mail ballots using the NIXIE label provided by USPS
• Empty and process mail ballot dropbox bags once they are in the custody of Vote-By-Mail
• Responsible for swapping out dropboxes that are full with an empty, replacement dropbox

Remakes:

• Ability to work in teams of two to assist with the duplication process of damaged ballots
• Ability to perform repetitious tasks while using a ballot marking device for prolonged periods of time
• Possess excellent communication and listening skills to accurately relay information/selections
• Log daily statistics such as workload, number of ballots processed, or current backlog
• Perform quality control checks on the ballots duplicated by other teams
• File processed ballots by sequence and serial number order

Additional Information:

Workers are responsible for maintaining a clean and organized office by keeping workstations and common areas tidy using appropriate cleaning tools and supplies. Breaks and lunches should be taken away from workstations. Additionally, workers must help maintain office security by locking doors and cabinets and ensuring access is limited to authorized personnel.

Essential Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
• Must be able to move from one workstation to another
• Repetitive use of hands
• Frequent bending and twisting of the waist
• Simple grasping and reaching above and below shoulder level
• Lifting and carrying objects up to 40 lbs.

• Must follow all health and safety protocols
• Must represent the Registrar of Voters in a professional/non-partisan manner
