Drilling Development Wellsite Leader

Job Overview bp P&A Wells is hiring a Well Site Leader (WSL) for drilling, completions, workovers, interventions and subsea activities across the Gulf of Mexico. The role is rig‑based and reports directly to the Well Superintendent (WSUP). The WSL leads daily operations, ensures safety compliance, manages vendor and contractor performance, and maintains operational excellence. Key Responsibilities Lead and supervise well site operations, ensuring adherence to the Safety Management System (SMS), Control of Work (CoW), and Hazard‑Safe‑Safe‑Optimal (HSSE) processes. Champion an inclusive workplace with a “stop the job” and “speak‑up” culture. Support senior WSL in reporting and documenting HSSE incidents, accidents and process safety events. Collaborate with well engineering, onsite vendors, suppliers and contractors to plan and prioritize daily operations and look‑ahead forecasts. Ensure procedural discipline and operational changes are properly managed, including pre‑job, pre‑tour, after‑action reviews (AAR) and lessons‑learned (LL). Prepare and review Daily Operations Reports (OpenWells), cost tracking and vendor/contractor daily reports for accuracy and distribution. Lead performance management of contractors and suppliers using KPI metrics such as productivity, non‑productivity, lost time events, investigations and non‑conformance. Essential Education High School Diploma or equivalent. Well Control Certification. Combined Supervisor IADC or IWCF in the relevant field. HUET training for locations requiring helicopter transit. Essential Experience & Qualifications 10+ years in Well Planning and/or Operations. Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking). Offshore experience as Driller or Toolpusher in drilling, completions, interventions or subsea operations (minimum 10 years). Demonstrated ability to develop skills and leadership for the well site leader role. HSSE leadership in supervising compliant operations without sacrificing efficiency. Contractor management experience for planning, preparation and execution of well activity. Strong interpersonal skills, capable of communicating at all levels across the region. Desired Criteria & Qualifications Preference for >10 years of offshore drilling/completions/interventions experience. Experience with vendors, service providers and rig/vessel contractor companies. Experience in multi‑disciplinary teams and remote locations. Ability to steward Contractor‑Operator relationships for aligned objectives and high‑quality performance. Degree in engineering, science or technical field (preferred). Travel & Relocation Requires rotational travel to bp heliport in Houma and potentially Houston for role‑specific training. Up to 100% travel expected. Position is eligible only for candidates located within the country or region of employment; no relocation assistance provided. The company covers travel expenses between any U.S. home location and the heliport or approved training locations.
