Claims Specialist, Design Professional

Claims Specialist – Design Professional Location: Multiple Locations Equal Opportunity Employer. AXA XL’s claims team specializes in handling complex professional liability claims for architects and engineers. In this role you will collaborate with regional practice leaders, brokers, and insureds, taking ownership of critical issues and ensuring optimal outcomes for both the insured and AXA XL. Responsibilities Proactively manage Design Professional liability claims across multiple jurisdictions, including initial review, coverage evaluation, developing resolution strategies, and ensuring ongoing communication with stakeholders. Use robust technical skills and subject matter expertise to handle complex claims within authority, setting timely and appropriate reserves. Partner with defense counsel to pursue cost‑efficient litigation strategies aligned with AXA XL best practices. Evaluate settlement value and negotiate claims and litigated matters within authority, participating in mediations and settlement conferences. Coordinate and manage communications with internal colleagues and key external stakeholders (clients, brokers, reinsurers, vendors) to provide the highest level of customer service. Ensure all documentation is present in the claim file and that Claims Handler Guidelines and protocols are followed. Maintain high‑quality relationships with insureds and brokers through frequent contact and responsiveness to their needs, including prompt contract reviews for insurability. Participate actively in marketing and promotional activities, including some public speaking. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Juris Doctor (JD) preferred. Experience: Intermediate level professional liability claims‑handling experience, including managing, negotiating, and resolving complex claims. Licensing: Insurance adjuster licenses for all states requiring licenses, or willingness to obtain such licenses immediately. Skills and Abilities: Proactive, results‑oriented file handling and decision making. Robust analytical and technical skills for complex claims. Effective collaboration with claims management, insureds, brokers, underwriters, and legal counsel. Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and influencing skills. Salary and Benefits U.S. base salary range: $88,500 to $154,900 USD. Actual pay will be determined based on skills, experience, and location to ensure market alignment and internal equity.
