Mariculture Ecosystem Specialist

Alaska Sea Grant is recruiting for a term-faculty to serve as a mariculture ecosystem specialist. The position will work collaboratively with the mariculture industry to address research questions to inform sustainable development of this industry. This position will conduct research on ecosystem interactions and environmental drivers of productivity at shellfish and seaweed farms. The position is located within the University of Alaska Fairbanks Alaska Sea Grant Marine Advisory Program and will be based in Juneau.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks, Alaska Sea Grant Marine Advisory Program is a statewide network of specialists and agents who provide formal and/or informal education, information and technical assistance to the public relating to commercial, subsistence or sport fisheries issues; aquaculture; coastal economic development, tourism or marine business management and commercial fisheries development; coastal resilience, community-based science and environmental monitoring; resource management; marine conservation; and environmental literacy.

To thrive in this role, the candidate should have knowledge of the mariculture industry in Alaska; advanced knowledge of research methods and statistical analytical procedures, particularly with environmental sensing and ecosystem interactions; knowledge of standard reporting and fiscal restrictions associated with research grants; an ability to successfully lead the work of others; an ability to work independently and balance complex tasks, deadlines, and budgets from internal and external organizations; excellent written and oral communication skills with an advanced knowledge and ability to write and edit reports and other materials.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in the natural sciences with demonstrated research experience in nearshore marine ecosystems.

Position Details:

This full-time, term-funded exempt faculty position is based in Juneau, Alaska, and offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package .
