Professional Coding Manager

Job Description Monitors and reports on coding work for quality, productivity, and compliance. Ensures proper coding following CMS and regulatory guidelines. Develops goals to meet overall objectives of Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) and its affiliates. Manages staff to establish standards for quality and quantity of work performed. Develops departmental goals and objectives aligned with department and facility goals. Works with staff to ensure compliance with CMS regulations, Local Medicare Review Policies (LMRPs), Local Carrier Determinations (LCDs), the AMA, BILH compliance policies, and accrediting organizations. Provides ongoing coding education and new coder education on proper coding and documentation. Ensures coding staff review and update any billing forms and codes used for billing regularly. Conducts physician coding audits, communicates results and recommendations. Conducts physician orientation and ongoing training as needed. Analyzes rejected claims and patient inquiries; recommends appropriate coding corrections. Attends management meetings, resolves problems, and conducts regular staff meetings. Acts as liaison for Revenue Cycle Teams as appropriate. Documents problems and handles complaints from employees, physicians, and administration. Keeps the Director informed of problems and challenges in the Coding Department. Attends industry meetings to maintain professional knowledge and stay current on billing regulations. Follows all CMS, AMA, AHA, CPT, ICD-9, HCPCS coding and billing guidelines. Education Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required. Licensure, Certification & Registration Coding Certificate from a college‑level coding program (or equivalent). Valid CPC, CCS‑P, CPC‑H, or CCS certification required. Experience Five or more years of management experience in a healthcare environment, preferably in a large group practice with professional coding and/or billing. Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Proficiency in CPT, HCPCS, and ICD‑9 coding for professional services. Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and basic software applications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong presentation skills. Pay Range $83,637.00 USD – $112,570.00 USD. The pay range listed is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time.
