Laboratory Technologist

Summary The main function of a lab technologist is to perform complex laboratory tests. A typical lab technologist usually reports to a biochemist or microbiologist. Job Responsibilities Analyze laboratory findings to check the accuracy of the results. Follows prescribed procedures, performing any tests within any of the laboratory specialties and calculating results of the tests performed if necessary. Recognize and correct basic analyzer malfunctions; notifying management personnel when appropriate Prepare reagents or media from a prescribed procedure Conduct established quality control procedures on analytical tests, equipment, reagents, media, and products Enter data from analysis of tests and results into computer for storage Skills Verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and problem solving skills. Basic ability to work independently and manage one?s time. Basic knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (international quality standard for human clinical trials) and local regulations.
