Special Education Teacher - Middle School

Special Education Teacher (6th Grade, Self-Contained Classroom)

Location: Calumet City, Illinois

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Pay: Up to $55/hour

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and student-centered Special Education Teacher to support a 6th-grade self-contained classroom serving a Amergisum of 13 students. Under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator, this role provides high-quality instructional services and individualized support to students with diverse learning needs. A classroom paraprofessional is provided to ensure strong classroom support and collaborative care.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) aligned with student goals

• Deliver differentiated instruction tailored to meet varying learning styles and abilities

• Provide specialized instruction and tutorial support in a self-contained classroom setting

• Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and support staff

• Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly

• Maintain compliance with all state, federal, and district regulations

• Foster a positive and structured classroom environment that promotes growth and independence

• Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and professional development activities

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (preferred)

• Valid state teaching certification as required by Illinois regulations

• One year of teaching experience in a classroom setting (preferred)

• Standard Teaching Certification in one or more of the following (preferred):

• Elementary Education

• Secondary Education

• Special Education

• Learning Behavior Specialist 1 (LBS1) endorsement highly preferred

• Strong knowledge of special education laws, compliance, and best practices

• Current CPR certification (if applicable)

• TB screening (questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray as required)

• Current health certificate per state or contract requirements

• Must meet all federal, state, and local employment requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age
