Job Description:

The Registered Nurse in the ICU will care for complex ICU patients including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases. The role requires strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

• Manage patient care based on identified individual patient needs according to unit policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with team members such as CNA, charge nurses, and physicians for optimized patient outcomes.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 2 years ICU experience excluding travel, or at least 1.5 years of ICU experience with significant RN experience outside ICU.
• Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certifications are required.
• Epic experience and comfortability working a 48-hour/week contract are mandatory.
• Experience with IV medications, hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, telemetry, and teamwork in critical settings.
• Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing and licensure as a Registered Nurse by the South Dakota Board of Nursing.

Unit Description
General Information
Beds: 39 - MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU - mixed unit
Minimal Experience:
2 years of ICU experience EXCLUDING travel experience is most preferred
If they have 1.5 years of ICU experience EXCLUDING travel, please have CRT send to management team for approval
Will you accept a first-time traveler? No. Minimum one prior travel assignment
Traveler must reside >100 miles outside of facility
Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
Patient Types:
Complex ICU patients ranging from surgical, medical, cardiac (preferred), neuro and trauma
Diagnoses include: ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, s/p cardiac cath, post-surgical, multiple system trauma - heavy trauma population
Cardiac experience is preferred (not required): CABG/TAVR - 24 to 48 hrs post op experience is preferred but not required for travelers
Will not take fresh open hearts unless they are experienced, and the facility felt comfortable with this - given to permanent staff
Patient Ratios:
RN: 1:1, 2:1, 3:1
