Salary Range 30: $25.70 - $31.18 per hour (5 step increments - per contract: highest placement w/experience is step 3). Includes district benefit package. Definition

Under the supervision of the Director of Information Technology and Services, provides installation, repair and preventive maintenance for a wide variety of IT equipment and related equipment; to do related work as required. Provides end user support at assigned sites related to operation, application access, procurement, and maintenance of assigned district and school owned equipment and programs. The IT Technician has a primary responsibility of implementing and maintaining hardware, software, applications and equipment at designated site or sites.

Examples Of Duties

Setup and/or repair of stand alone and networked devices on an initial and recurring basis;

Respond to inquiries regarding questions and usage of common district software and hardware;

Manage user access to network resources related to password changes, permissions, and updates. Perform on-site troubleshooting and repairs, run diagnostic programs, upgrade and research equipment and software, verify software licensing, order and install replacement equipment/components to assure district-wide standards are upheld; Installation and troubleshooting of various client machines, network equipment, switches, wireless systems, battery backups, and telephony; answer questions on a user level about hardware and software; instructs district personnel regarding the proper care, use and maintenance of IT applications and devices on an individual and small group basis; Create, manage and route work order tickets, document internal procedures; follow a schedule of preventative maintenance for district devices, peripherals and network equipment. Does related work as required.

Employment Standards

Education and Experience: High school diploma plus two years of experience with general computer operations. Familiar with the use of electronics; repair and test equipment; proficient in computer operations. Additional education in computer science, information services or a related field preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Requires a technical understanding of computer operations and of the functions and capabilities of ancillary data processing equipment. Must understand the protocols and procedures for setting up new equipment, troubleshooting and performing routine maintenance. Requires sufficient communication skills to conduct individual instruction and technical assistance on the use and application of district software, internet and connectivity software, and small group instruction on common software.

Abilities: Must be able to perform all of the relevant duties of the position with minimal supervision. Must be able to operate a variety of computer terminals, printers and peripheral equipment and use repair and test equipment. Requires the ability to analyze well-precedented technical problems and to develop and apply appropriate solutions. Must be able to train others in the use of computer hardware and software. Must be able to read, understand and apply information from technical manuals. Must be able to prioritize work in order to meet deadlines and maintain schedules, and work with discretion and retain confidentiality.

Physical Abilities: Position requires light to medium walking, standing for periods up to one hour, stooping, carrying and lifting of medium to heavy weight materials (up to 50 pounds). Requires visual acuity to read numbers, letters and images; depth perception to connect parts and sub- assemblies; hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity to use computer keyboards and related equipment. Requires speaking and hearing ability sufficient to hear over the phone and carry on routine conversations with minimal voice projection. Requires the ability to work in small or confined spaces. Holds and maintains a valid California Driver's License.
