Senior Crime and Intelligence Analyst

Position Overview Senior Crime and Intelligence Analyst works under general supervision to lead and manage staff, plan analysis work, oversee complex crime and intelligence investigation tasks, ensure policy compliance, train staff, and provide support to detectives, investigators, and prosecutors. Responsibilities Lead, plan, schedule, oversee, and evaluate staff performing crime and intelligence analysis. Perform the most complex, difficult, and sensitive crime and intelligence analysis tasks. Ensure task completion in accordance with established policies and procedures. Communicate policies, procedures, and job expectations. Provide training to staff. Assist detectives, investigators, and prosecutors. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice, crime analysis, intelligence studies, homeland security, geographic information systems, statistics, applied mathematics, data mining, computer science, public or business administration, or a closely related field. Three years full‑time paid experience in a law‑enforcement, military, or governmental intelligence agency focused on collecting, validating, analyzing, and disseminating crime and intelligence data for predicting and forecasting future criminal activity. Certificate of Completion in Crime and Intelligence Analysis issued by the California Department of Justice may substitute for one year of experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Principles and practices of leadership, mentoring, and training. Crime and intelligence analysis techniques: data collection, validation, analysis, forecasting, target profiling, association mapping, statistical and logic methods, use of technology. Applicable laws, codes, regulations including data collection and retention limits. State and federal privacy and civil liberty statutes relevant to criminal justice systems. Functions, authorities, and responsibilities of criminal justice agencies. Use of various computer software for crime analysis: spreadsheets, hypothesis testing, GIS, mapping, charting, graphing, databases. English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and effective writing techniques. Lead and train subordinate staff. Plan, coordinate, assign, and review staff work. Provide work direction and instruction. Research and evaluate work problems and recommend solutions.Find, compile, analyze, and validate the credibility of information and data. Develop and test hypotheses, forecasts, and predictions. Assist in developing tactical and strategic responses to criminal activity. Operate software applications (mapping, graphing, charting, databases, spreadsheets). Maintain data records, reports, bulletins, and correspondence. Interpret and apply law‑enforcement codes and regulations. Communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively verbally and in writing. Make verbal presentations. Establish and maintain effective working relationships even under adverse circumstances. Operate standard office equipment. Other Requirements & Working Conditions Successful candidates may be required to secure and maintain a Secret or Top Secret security clearance. A valid California driver’s license, Class C or higher, may be required. Work may include nights, weekends, holidays, detention or investigative facilities, locked secure facilities, and overtime without advance notice.
