Staff Accountant

Overview Staff Accountant – A Washington, DC based professional services firm seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join its Finance team. This role supports the firm's day-to-day financial operations across seven U.S. offices while contributing to process improvements, compliance, and scalable financial reporting. Responsibilities Reconcile monthly bank statements timely and accurately Maintain, analyze, and update general ledger entries Assist in posting transactions to the general ledger Perform general ledger account reviews and reconciliations, including identifying, investigating and resolving misclassifications or errors Maintain and update the General Ledger Chart of Accounts Assist with month-end and year-end closings, including journal entries, account reconciliations and account analysis Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset subledger, including recording additions, disposals, monthly depreciation, and supporting fixed asset tax reporting and compliance Prepare and initiate ACH and wire transfers for cash disbursements, ensuring accuracy, proper authorization, and compliance with firm policies Prepare financial reports and assist with responses to audits, surveys, and tax filings Assist in reviewing and developing SOPs and process workflows for automation, efficiency, standardization and consistency Assist with annual budgeting process Utilize information and summarize financial reports to better understand the firm's financial position and provide meaningful data to firm management Provide ad hoc reporting (including tax reporting), analysis, and special projects Identify and recommend opportunities to leverage technology, automation, and AI tools to improve finance analysis, reporting, workflows and compliance processes Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance Strong working knowledge of general ledger and reconciliations Proven experience with accounting principles, tax reporting, and trust accounting Advanced Excel skills required (e.g., VLOOKUPs, XLOOKUPs, SUMIFS, pivot tables, data analysis) High attention to detail, ability to self-review, and commitment to accuracy Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset Work Environment Hybrid model - three in-office days per week. Compensation The base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $95,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience. The compensation for this position may also include discretionary performance and productivity bonuses.
