Snapshot / Role Overview

We're seeking a Mechanical Construction Estimator in Fountain Valley, CA to own full-cycle HVAC and plumbing bids on large commercial and healthcare mechanical projects from conceptual budget through bid-day execution.

Impact

• Produce accurate HVAC, plumbing, and piping estimates that directly determine which projects the company wins and at what margin.
• Strengthen the company's competitive position on HCAI healthcare and large commercial work across Southern California.
• Deliver reliable conceptual budgets early in design-assist and design-build pursuits and refine them as drawings develop.
• Give project management a clean, well-documented handoff that reduces post-award surprises.

Responsibilities

• Complete quantity takeoffs for ductwork, HVAC piping, plumbing, sheet metal, and mechanical equipment using platforms such as Trimble AutoBid, QuickPen, FastPipe, FastDuct, or Bluebeam.
• Price labor units and material costs for plan-and-spec, design-assist, and design-build bids.
• Develop conceptual budgets and update them as design progresses through construction documents.
• Solicit, review, and level vendor and subcontractor quotes for accuracy and scope coverage.
• Identify value engineering opportunities across HVAC, plumbing, and piping scopes.
• Prepare scope letters, qualifications, and exclusions for each proposal.
• Execute bid-day coordination and final number assembly.
• Deliver organized estimate packages to project management at award.

Requirements

Must-Haves

• Dedicated commercial mechanical estimating experience covering both HVAC and plumbing scopes.
• Proven ability to perform takeoffs and price ductwork, hydronic piping, domestic water, and waste and vent systems.
• Experience estimating plan-and-spec, design-assist, and design-build projects.
• Proficiency with at least one industry takeoff platform.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications for scope gaps and constructability issues.

Nice-to-Haves

• Healthcare or HCAI project estimating experience.
• Familiarity with medical gas pricing and requirements.
• Background in Trimble AutoBid, QuickPen, FastPipe, FastDuct, or Bluebeam.
