Physician Assistant – Phase 1 Cancer Clinical Trials Office Research Program The Physician Assistant of the Phase 1 Cancer Clinical Trials Office Research Program will work closely with the Disease and Modality Team Leader, Attending Physicians, and Program Director of the Early Phase Program. The PA reports to the Phase 1 Disease and Modality Physician Leader regarding patient care and collaborates with the Sr. Director for Cancer Clinical Research Administration and the Director of the Cancer Clinical Trials Office to screen eligible patients for trial and provide care to patients on early phase cancer clinical trials, within the scope of practice and in accordance with the clinical research protocol. The Physician Assistant writes orders for the RN and staff to carry out. MMC is looking for a committed, warm and passionate individual who can make a difference in the way that MMC participants are cared for. This is a grant funded position. Responsibilities Review patient histories, conduct physical exams, and manage medical care of patients with cancer enrolled in early phase clinical trials, providing treatment and supportive care. Ensure proper medical care is provided. Maintain protocol and GCP compliance. Provide clear explanations of study participation—including potential treatment options, alternatives, expected and unexpected side effects of medications. Assess patients on early phase clinical trials, including review of medical history, systems and complaints to assess adverse events associated with participation and manage adverse events per scope of practice and protocol requirements. Report to and support the physician/medical director to enroll and treat patients efficiently and integratedly. Provide support to medical staff. Ensure proper medical care is provided. Maintain protocol and GCP compliance. Take appropriate patient notes and ensure care is logged in the EHR. Utilize specific information in development of teaching and long‑term plans. Document patient/involved others’ response to teaching/long‑term planning. Evaluate and document patient/involved others’ response to teaching/long‑term planning. Maintain compliance with GCP and protocol requirements. Collaborate and communicate with members of clinical and research team for an integrated medical treatment plan for each participant in an early phase clinical trial. Ensure open communication with physicians, administration and clinical staff—clinic and infusion staff. Write appropriate medical orders for RNs to execute. Ensure all medical orders and documentation meet standards. Requirements 1-3 years of experience working with cancer patients, prior experience in clinical trials and grant‑funded projects. Experience with therapeutic research preferred. NYS Physician Assistant License and Registration. Excellent interpersonal skills for interaction with participants. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
