Maintenance AssistantThe Maintenance Assistant is responsible for maintenance and janitorial duties of the Harbor Light Center.Duties and Responsibilities:Take charge of operations when Facilities Manager is unavailableInspect buildings, grounds, and equipmentComplete minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC repairsDiagnose and fix lighting, heating, cooling, and appliance issuesKeep walkways and common areas safe and maintainedOversee repairs and coordinate with subcontractors and janitorial staffPrepare rooms for move in and out and conduct inspectionsMaintain HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systemsEnsure health and safety compliance and support emergency planningProvide updates to Facilities Manager and Executive DirectorAssist with deep cleaning tasks like windows and floorsManage trash and recyclingIdentify and report safety hazardsInspect and maintain fire safety equipmentRespond quickly to maintenance requests and emergenciesCommunicate major repair needs and coordinate contractor quotesMaintain maintenance logs and property recordsHelp prepare reports for leadershipTrack repairs, room turnover, and projectsOther related duties as requiredEducation and Experience:High school diploma or equivalent (required)Valid CA driver's license (required)Experience in building maintenance and repair work (1 year required)OSHA Safety Certification (within first ninety days of employment – company provided)First Aid and CPR certification (within first seven days of employment – company provided)Tuberculosis clearance (within first fourteen days of employment – company provided)Skills and Abilities:Ability to work after hours and weekends (required)Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)Strong organizational and communication skillsKnowledge of property maintenance and repair practicesBasic skills in electrical, plumbing, and carpentry workStrong problem-solving skills with attention to detailAbility to work independently and as part of a teamWorking knowledge of health and safety regulationsAbility to maintain professional boundaries while working respectfully with vulnerable populationsEquipment Used:Modern Office Equipment and Relevant SoftwareRelevant maintenance and janitorial equipmentPhysical Requirements:Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.ADA StatementQualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
