Maintenance TechnicianThis position is a key member in the school community that enables the school to achieve its educational mission at the highest standards. The Maintenance Technician will work as part of the team that is responsible for repairing and maintaining the school's facilities. In the event of an emergency, this individual may be called upon to support necessary tasks in association with that emergency. The position will also assist with facilitating school events that promote community engagement by bringing together students and their families as well as school faculty and staff.UHS is a coeducational college-preparatory independent day school with 490 students in grades 9-12. UHS is in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco, with four campus buildings, a fifth campus building under construction, athletic facilities, and a Head of School house. Founded in 1975, the school's mission includes providing a transformational experience that embraces the spirited pursuit of learning and empowers purpose larger than self.Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupports the daily operations and maintenance of SFUHS buildings, grounds and equipment by performing troubleshooting, on-demand and preventive maintenance on the following facility components:Mechanical: heating and cooling systems, boiler systems, and fire sprinklersPlumbing: repair/replace toilets, faucets, sinks, valves and water fountainsElectrical: repair/replace broken switches/outlets, lighting fixtures, and lightbulbsCarpentry: repair/replace wood framing, furniture, cabinetry, interior and exterior doors and related hardware, drywall, window glass, and interior and exterior paintingGroundskeeping: power washing and window cleaningBasic vehicle maintenancePerform troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and on-demand repairs in the following skill areas: plumbing, electrical, mechanical, lighting, windows & doors, carpentry, painting and groundskeeping.Drives a cart or other vehicle.Assist with the setup and breakdown of special events.Orders replacement parts and equipment with management approval.Demonstrates proficiency in selecting proper methods of maintenance and repair and the required tools and materials.Analyzes and adheres to plans, specifications, manuals, and work orders, as well as other written and/or verbal instructions.Assists skilled trade workers in one or more areas performing specific or standard duties to learn new skills as required for advancement and certification.Assist in training, assigning and checking the work of lower-level employees.Identifies and reports any accidents, injuries and unsafe conditions to management in a timely manner.Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.Applies applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work.Log and update work orders in our digital CMMS work ticket system.RequirementsWorks independently while obtaining approval when requiredPresent self in a highly professional manner to othersMaintain a professional working relationship with co-workersExhibit a positive and service-oriented attitudeUnderstand that honesty and ethics are essentialWork well under tight time requirementsWork well alone and in a teamExhibit a strong attention to detailFlexibility to work nights, weekends, and some holidaysPhysical stamina and dexterity, including ability to walk up and down hillsWork in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and lift up to 50 poundsSuccessfully complete a criminal background check and TB clearanceValid driver license to drive in CaliforniaIntermediate to strong skills utilizing hand and power tools.Ability to identify and select correct materials, tools and techniques for carrying out maintenance.Maintain a safety oriented work environment, select and utilize appropriate PPE and adhere to relevant safety practices.Maintain workshop inventory and alert management of items that need ordering or replacement.Wages and BenefitsThis is a full time, non-exempt position with an hourly wage ranging from $35.00 to $43.00, commensurate with experience.
