Phlebotomist

Position Summary The Phlebotomist will provide high-quality specimen collection and laboratory support services for inpatient and outpatient Veterans receiving care at the Togus VA Medical Center. Responsibilities include performing routine, timed, ASAP, STAT, and Emergency Department specimen collections while ensuring patient safety, specimen integrity, and compliance with all applicable laboratory and VA standards. Schedule Day (9:00am-5:30pm) or Evening (3:00pm-11:30pm) Weekend day 0600 to 1400 Weekend evening 1330 to 2100 Weekends, holidays, and overtime may be required. Key Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures for inpatient and outpatient patients. Collect specimens for routine, timed, ASAP, STAT, and Emergency Department testing. Conduct inpatient rounds and collect specimens throughout the medical center. Process laboratory specimens and prepare samples for referral testing. Verify patient identity and maintain accurate specimen labeling. Ensure specimen integrity throughout collection, processing, storage, and transport. Identify and resolve specimen collection and processing issues. Follow infection prevention, laboratory safety, and bloodborne pathogen protocols. Maintain compliance with HIPAA, VA privacy requirements, and laboratory quality standards. Document laboratory activities accurately within VA systems. Participate in quality assurance, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives. Collaborate effectively with laboratory staff, providers, and healthcare teams to support patient care needs. Qualifications Minimum of 3 years of phlebotomy experience Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification through ASCP or AMT Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Current AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications Ability to successfully complete the AMI credentialing process EEO Statement AMI provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds to participate in its employment practices.
