Histopathology Technician

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Histopathology Technician to join our laboratory team. The successful candidate will perform histological procedures in an accredited CAP/CLIA laboratory, assisting in various laboratory tasks and ensuring high-quality results.

Responsibilities

• Conduct histological procedures in an accredited CAP/CLIA laboratory.
• Assist in the gross room, including accessioning, cassette, and slide labeling.
• Work efficiently with minimal supervision, adapting hours as needed.
• Prepare tissue samples for routine microscopic analysis and complex testing.
• Maintain and operate laboratory equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
• Demonstrate knowledge of quality, safety, and compliance programs.
• Investigate, document, and resolve needs, problems, or complaints.
• Perform area-specific support and clinical activities.
• Train other testing personnel.

Essential Skills

• High School Graduate or equivalent.
• Three years of experience in a Histopathology Laboratory preferred.
• HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification or eligibility for certification.
• Proficiency in computer skills, including word processing and information systems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Understanding of regulatory compliance and HIPAA.
• Ability to distinguish colors for analysis and hear equipment timers.
• Fine hand manipulation for equipment operation and specimen handling.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with aseptic techniques.
• Ability to work well in a small team environment.
• Strong technical skills and an easy-going personality.

Work Environment

The work environment is a small laboratory space, shared with one or two colleagues. The role is primarily laboratory-based with some office duties for writing experiments, validation documents, and standard operating procedures. The position is a six-month contract covering maternity leave, with a day schedule from Monday to Friday, starting between 7 am and 9 am for an 8-hour shift. The team works closely with the accessioning team and requires creating shipment manifests for samples.

This is a Contract position based out of West Sacramento, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $39.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
