The Office Medical Assistant plays a vital role within a medium-sized medical support team focused on specialty care, directly reporting to the Office Manager. This position involves providing comprehensive patient care by preparing patients, recording vital signs, and managing clinical documentation through electronic health records (EHR). The role also includes administrative support such as scheduling appointments and coordinating referrals, ensuring efficient practice operations and enhancing patient experience in a safe, well-organized environment.

 

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for examinations by reviewing medical history and documenting symptoms
• Record vital signs, height, and weight accurately
• Document patient information in electronic health record (EHR) systems
• Assist medical providers with exams, procedures, and clinical tasks
• Administer medications and injections under licensed supervision
• Collect and prepare laboratory specimens including pathology, urine, fecal, and blood samples
• Schedule appointments, answer phones, and provide customer service
• Coordinate referrals and prior authorizations with healthcare professionals and medical facilities
• Stock and maintain exam rooms and common areas with necessary supplies
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of patient areas and workstations
• Clean and sterilize medical instruments and equipment
• Manage inventory and place orders for medical and office supplies
• Report equipment issues and coordinate repairs
• Participate in continuing education and take initiative to improve practice operations

 

Required Qualifications

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

 

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in medical assisting
• Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate healthcare program (e.g., Medicine or Physician Assistant school)
• Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems
• Strong clinical communication and patient preparation skills
• Detail-oriented and accurate in documentation and procedures
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a healthcare team
