Job Type: Temporary (6-Month Assignment)
Pay Rate: $21.65/hour
Location: Ossining, NY On-site (no remote)

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-2:00pm

Job Overview

Madison Approach Staffing is recruiting for a Medical Claims Assistant for our client, a mission-based nonprofit organization with healthcare operations. This role provides essential support for medical claims processing and administrative operations. The Medical Claims Assistant handles claims batching, routine office tasks, provides member services, and supports the Medical Claims Manager with data entry and claims examination. The ideal candidate has 1-3 years of claims processing experience, knowledge of medical terminology and insurance forms, strong organizational skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Open, sort, and batch/organize all incoming medical claims
• Data entry and transfer of claims information from paper records into computer software
• Examine and process clean medical claims
• Make calls to providers seeking additional claims information
• Provide member benefits and claims status inquiries via phone, mail, and in-person
• Receive, screen, and respond to member inquiries professionally
• Prepare and disseminate memos and office correspondence
• Track data and maintain accurate filing systems
• Order and manage office supplies
• Support the Medical Claims Manager and Director with administrative tasks
• Cross-trained to provide backup support on claims processing functions

Required Skills & Experience

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred
• Experience: 1-3 years claims processing experience, preferably in healthcare environment
• Medical Knowledge: Working knowledge of Medical Terminology, ICD-9/ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS codes; familiarity with HCFA/CMS-1500 and UB-04 forms
• Compliance: Knowledge and understanding of HIPAA guidelines
• Insurance Knowledge: Understanding of medical and dental insurance
• Accuracy: Ability to work with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
• Computer Skills: Data entry experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel required)
• Communication: Excellent verbal, listening, and written communication skills
• Organization: Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
• Independence: Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision
