Assistant Controller

A Private Equity Firm based in New York City is seeking an experienced accounting professional to join their team as Assistant Controller. Responsibilities Lead and supervise both onshore and offshore accounting teams, fostering a collaborative environment and providing opportunities for professional growth and development. Identify and recommend process and reporting improvements; collaborate with senior leadership and technology teams and assist in validating system enhancements or reporting changes. Monitor fund investments and analyze performance, partnering with investment and origination teams to address complex inquiries and provide financial insight. Review and approve quarterly financial statements, compliance reports, and investor reporting for assigned funds, ensuring adherence to fund governing documents, GAAP, credit facility requirements, and SEC regulations. Support the Controller in evaluating and implementing accounting decisions related to new or proposed accounting guidance. Manage fund liquidity to support optimal IRR outcomes for limited partners, including monitoring deal pipelines and availability under fund credit facilities. Review and provide input on fund legal documentation, including PPMs, LPAs, and investor letters; develop and maintain models for waterfalls, management fees, carried interest, and other fund-specific calculations. Oversee the preparation and review of capital call and distribution notices, credit line draw and repayment notices, partner capital statements, and quarterly investor communications; coordinate with the Investor Services team and respond to investor inquiries as needed. Collaborate with the valuation team to review quarterly investment valuations and ensure changes are appropriately supported and documented. Perform other duties, as needed Qualifications Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Accounting required; CPA strongly preferred. 8–15 years of experience in alternative investments within private industry or public accounting. Strong understanding of investment company financial reporting, fund accounting, and credit instruments. Experience with distressed debt, credit instruments, foreign investments, or originated loans preferred. Familiarity with Investran, Virtual Portfolio Manager (VPM), or similar portfolio accounting systems is a plus. Proven leadership and people management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop both onshore and offshore teams. Strong organizational and planning abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing workloads. Highly analytical and detail-oriented, with strong critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
