Microbiology Specialist I

Position: Microbiology Specialist I Location: Sparks, MD Duration: 5+ months contract Hours per week: 40 Shift: 1st shift (Any 8‑hour shift between 7A‑8P) Employment Type: Contract on W2 (US citizens or green‑card holders only) Client: Medical Device Company Skill Set Candidate will possess a background in microbiology with immuno‑chemistry experience, typically derived from a BS in microbiology. Must be able to understand and interpret immuno chemistry questions related to clinical trial data and scientific methods, and interpret package insert information related to assay testing and procedures. Key capabilities include multi‑tasking with multiple computer systems (call‑center software, CRM, KMS), clear communication, and applying microbiology/immuno‑chemistry skills to problem resolution. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Assist lab personnel and the general public with questions related to BD assay products for COVID‑19 and the BD Veritor reader. Deliver prompt and thorough responses to inquiries from internal and external customers via telephone and written communication. Generate and maintain proper complaint documentation in compliance with FDA (21 CFR) and ISO requirements. Coordinate with Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Research & Development, Marketing, Sales, Engineering, and Field personnel to ensure timely follow‑up and resolution of all technical inquiries and product issues. Support the 24/7 technical service telephone line by providing overnight assistance. Promote and uphold privacy and security related to PHI and HIPAA. Contribute to team goals and objectives through active participation. Minimum Qualifications A.S. degree in Life Sciences or related discipline required. 0–2 years of relevant experience in a clinical or reference microbiology laboratory, hospital or reference cytology laboratory, industrial microbiology laboratory, or biotech/academic molecular laboratory. Basic knowledge of LIS or laboratory management systems. Effective written and verbal communication and customer service skills. Proficiency using MS Office Outlook, Word, and Excel. Experience with point‑of‑care (Veritor) testing preferred. Effective planning and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience as a Cytotechnologist (ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP). Bachelor of Science degree with a life sciences focus preferred.
