Elementary Multilingual Learner (MLL) Teacher – Internal Only – 26-27SY. School locations to be determined.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Under direction of the Building Principal, the Multilingual Learner (ESL) Teacher plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community. Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.

TRAINING

Appoquinimink School District may require training in Safety‑Care or a similar competency-based crisis prevention intervention as a condition of continued employment.

COMPLIANCE – LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION / PERMIT

Failure to meet or maintain any licensing or certification minimum qualifications listed below may result in withdrawal of the job offer prior to employment or termination of employment if already hired.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans and provides small group and push‑In instruction for students to maximize English proficiency Plans and provides hybrid (in person) and virtual instruction Works with district EL team and school staff to accomplish District EL mission and objectives Obtains necessary WIDA test certifications Administers placement tests to determine student ESL eligibility Administers annual ACCESS test to EL students to determine growth in language proficiency Communicates with and provides instructional strategies to regular classroom teachers enabling them to increase the learning of EL students in the regular classroom Determines appropriate EL accommodations for students and supports classroom teachers in application Communicates EL student progress to parents via parent conferences, IEP meetings, phone calls, etc. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and regulation Prepared to plan a program of study that meets individual needs and abilities of students Ability and willingness to learn and use instructional technology Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning Employs a variety of instructional techniques consistent with measured needs of students Strives to maintain and improve practice through ongoing professional learning Other duties as directed by immediate supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college Hold or eligible for State of Delaware Certification as an English as a Second Language Teacher Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, methodology of effective teaching Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs Skilled in the use of multi‑media and computer technology to enhance learning Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

Preferred: Transcripts reviewed/evaluated by a Department of Education approved professional organization; submit review/evaluation with application. Required: Answer all questions regarding international applicants when completing application. Required: Review information on State of Delaware's Department of Education DEEDS website regarding Non‑U.S. Application Certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee regularly talks, expresses or exchanges ideas by spoken word. Must convey detailed or important spoken instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly. Must possess normal cognitive abilities. Frequently sits or remains stationary for long periods. May exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The work is generally performed in a school environment and may require moving around the school and classroom.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

All persons employed must submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test. Required documentation: proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver's License), eligibility for employment in the U.S.A., completion of I-9 and Delaware Child Protection Registry paperwork.
