Summary
The Vice President of Marine Construction & Dredging Operation is a senior executive position that will serve as an integral part of Ahtna Marine and Construction Company (AMCC) management team. The Vice President of Marine Construction & Dredging is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization’s marine construction and dredging operations. The position must bring a cohesive team together, clarify the goals of the project and keep all the team members focused on the objectives, their independent roles, and contributions to the project to ensure that everything is completed on time with the desired results. The principal objective of the role is day-to-day management, strategic planning, project management, team leadership and ensuring the efficient and safe execution of all projects.
Works under the direction of the AMCC President. The VP of Marine Construction & Dredging will act independently or assist in the performance of all duties necessary to ensure that all project management functions are performed in a timely and efficient manner while managing all aspects of project services, equipment resources, and deliverables.
The salary range for this position is $192,904-244,988 per year.

- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the organization’s marine construction and dredging operation, considering market trends, competition, and business growth opportunities.
- Responsible for managing risks emanating from contract or regulatory non-compliance during contract performance.
- Define project scope, deliverables, schedules, budgets, and tasks list.
- Build consensus among project team members regarding task definitions, task sequencing and frequency, and task interrelationships within the project. Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of dredging projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with relevant regulations and safety standards.
- Work directly with AMCC leadership and on-site Project Managers on various contracts to oversee operations and evaluate performance against contract requirements to ensure they are within the scope of the contract and in compliance with the terms and conditions set forth.
- Lead a team of marine construction and dredging professionals, including project managers, engineers, surveyors, and equipment operators, fostering a culture of safety, excellence, and collaboration.
- Provide ongoing project management support to regional leaders, site leaders and supervisors
- Assist in budget preparation by managing the budget for dredging operations, monitoring costs, optimizing resource allocation, and identifying opportunities to improve cost-efficiency.
- Prepare monthly project updates and reports.
- Liaison with contracting officers’ representatives
- Prepare modification pricing and statements of work.
- Oversee management of equipment resources
- Assist with cost and pricing estimates.
- Assist in writing technical project approach and methodology sections of proposals.
- Assist in the contract negotiation processes.
- Provide mentoring for project management best practices and techniques.
- Initiate quality assurance plan and oversee quality control inspections and processes.
- Identify and solve project issues, problems, and changes.
- Monitor remedial processes and solutions.
- Negotiate and communicate with union officials and representatives.
- Prepare project reports and presentations for program and project status meetings.
- Contribute to the creation of policies and procedures that facilitate best practice project management applications.
- Be a monitor of and facilitator for staff morale.
- Develop and mentor a high-quality professional project staff that can add value and play a key role as the firm continues its growth and expansion. Prioritize and enforce safety protocols to protect the well-being of employees, subcontractors, and the environment during dredging operations.
- Prove and upgrade the firm’s business infrastructure so that it continually meets the growing needs of a large professional organization.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
May supervise Program Managers, Project Managers, Equipment Managers, and contract staff, Corporate Admin staff that are identified and added as needs dictate.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, marine science, or a related field (a master’s degree by be preferred). Professional experience at a managerial/operational level may substitute on a 1:1 ratio.
- Eight (8) years of direct project management experience of multiple projects in a supervisory capacity
- Extensive experience in marine construction and dredging operations, including leadership roles. At least eight (8) years of direct project management experience of multiple projects in a supervisory capacity
- Profound knowledge of marine construction techniques, dredging methodologies, and industry best practices.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Working knowledge of current Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations (DFAR), and applicable state and local regulations.
- Possess an understanding of applicable military and commercial specifications and standards.
- Strong familiarity with environmental regulations, safety standards, and maritime laws
- Advanced knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office to include Excel, Word, and PowerPoint applications.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and clients.
- Strategic thinking, problem-solving abilities, and financial acumen.
- Current security clearance or ability to possess a security clearance.

- Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures
