New Business Development Manager

Location: Boston, Massachusetts / New England Region Employment Type: Full-Time Base Salary: $45,000–$50,000 annually Additional Compensation: Performance-based bonus opportunity Work Arrangement: Field-Based / In Person About the Opportunity Designer Greetings is seeking a driven and relationship-focused Business Development Manager to support business growth throughout the New England region, with a primary focus on the Boston metropolitan area. This position is responsible for identifying new retail opportunities, developing strong customer relationships, expanding the Company’s market presence, and supporting long-term account growth. The ideal candidate is a motivated sales professional who is comfortable working independently, managing a geographic territory, developing new business, and building lasting partnerships with customers. Key Responsibilities Identify and pursue new business opportunities throughout the Boston area and broader New England market. Develop and execute territory sales strategies designed to increase revenue, customer acquisition, and market penetration. Prospect for potential customers through networking, referrals, market research, cold outreach, and in-person visits. Manage the full business development process, from initial prospecting and relationship development through proposal presentation, negotiation, and account activation. Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective and existing customers. Conduct customer meetings, presentations, and business reviews to communicate the value of the Company’s products and services. Evaluate customer needs and recommend appropriate product and service solutions. Negotiate pricing, service expectations, and business terms within established Company guidelines. Partner with internal Sales, Operations, Customer Service, and Merchandising teams to support successful account launches and ongoing customer satisfaction. Maintain accurate and timely records of customer activity, sales opportunities, follow-up actions, and account information within the Company’s CRM or sales-tracking systems. Monitor market conditions, customer trends, competitive activity, and emerging business opportunities within the assigned territory. Prepare regular reports and updates regarding sales activity, pipeline development, account opportunities, and territory performance. Represent Designer Greetings professionally at customer meetings, industry events, trade shows, and other business development activities. Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned. Qualifications Previous experience in business development, outside sales, account management, territory management, or a related customer-facing role. Demonstrated ability to generate leads, develop customer relationships, and close new business. Experience managing a geographic sales territory is strongly preferred. Knowledge of the Boston and New England business markets is preferred. Strong prospecting, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational, time-management, and follow-through abilities. Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet established sales goals. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and customer relationship management or sales-tracking systems. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field is preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered. Previous experience within the retail, consumer products, greeting card, gift, or related industries is a plus. Travel Requirements Regular local and regional travel throughout the assigned New England territory is required. Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation. Occasional overnight travel may be required based on business needs. Actual compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, territory needs, and other job-related factors.
